i dw ed up to the supsa comp today. got in as the bop race finished. had a couple of bbq snags and settled in to watch the finals.

there was a 5 surfers womans final. i was blown away at how good they were in really rough conditions. no falling around and all getting the best out of crappy waves. i was judging most of the comps 2 years ago and to see this level from the girls now is amazing.

qld womens sup is looking strong.

ps sarah mason surfed the mens comp too and had the highest score in one semi final. not sure how the final went

Really stoked that were now getting good numbers of girls at every club round, and the level some of the young girls are surfing at is amazing.

To get enough girls turn up today, in average and challenging conditions, to run two full first round heats, rep final and final was awesome, and every single one of the girls was surfing confidently and handling the tricky conditions really well.

During the last 4 years of club comps, I've often (about 1/3 of the time) been the only chick turn up on the day to surf, and the rest of the time, it's frequently been myself and 1 (maybe 2) others. We've had plenty of club comps in tricky/crappy conditions like we got today, and those have usually been the days I've been on my own.

Sarah Mason was absolutely ripping (& she's only 18)! Not only winning her first round women's heat, but also surfing in the men's draw again, and winning her round 1 heat and semi final too.
(Not sure of the final women's & men's results yet?)

Ke'ale Dorries (15) was also surfing really well, taking out her first round heat, but a bit unlucky with waves in the final, and Molly Mason (also 15) is improving all the time & she's definitely a contender to watch out for in the future.

These 3 junior girls are heading off to comps around the country/globe over the coming weeks...

So best of luck to Sarah & Molly - who'll be competing at the Dominelli Women's Surf Classic at Cronulla next weekend, doing both the Pro Junior surfing and the Open Women's SUP.

Meanwhile Ke'ale will be heading to California in a couple of days, to compete in the Standup World Tour Huntington Beach Pro. It's the first full year where women have been included in the StandupWorldTour, and I think Ke'ale might be the first Aussie chick to compete in the series! So good luck Ke'ale and show them what the Aussie girls can do.

Stoked to see the future of women's sup surfing in Queensland looking so strong.
