An old salt who worked Bass Strait for years once told me that if you island-hop the chain at the eastern end of the strait (which their route looks like) the max distance between islands is about 20-25k...but some of those islands would be have to be fairly inhospitable.
I hope it ends well , if not the most dangerous and unpredictable crossing in the world would be close to it. I wouldn't want to trying to land on one of the many islands in a big swell either. Good luck.

Actually some of the islands that ARE inhabitable are in fact not so hospitable in the Deliverance country sense, if you know what I mean.

Good luck to be boys, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, Dean Gardiner is also with them Unofficially on a Surfski. Also Ex Ironman Guy Andrews did the crossing on a ski a few years ago, actually it's quite common hundreds of people have done it.

I reupped this video from 2009 of our Bass Strait Crossing, I thought interested paddlers might like to see what it's like out there. This video is from our crossing in 2009 and features visual info of the Islands, conditions and challenges.
