I Hope your joking!
Cool way to break your leg or do your knee
Why do you fall forward?
Dont stand like this!

Adopt a wide bent knee stance....& use your paddle...become a tripod!
Weight should be on the back foot ready to pressure the rail

I wonder if this kid is still doing this? With his foot in the strap that far & if it stuck....eewww....what is going to happen to his leg if the back foot suddenly goes off the board....its bad enough with a 1 meter kite board imagine the force of a sub......bugger that!

I think with the amount of trimming you need to do on a typical downwinder, straps just wouldn't work too well.

the straps would be loose except when you put your foot right up into them. the tow boys seem to be able to get out of them easily. i'm only talking about ocean d/wer's the 17' i altered allows me to charge into the bump ahead pretty nicely. it's very smooth without much of kick back you get from a lot of other boards. the kick back can cause you to go over the front. while my board seems pretty good at piercing through the bump if i wont to do that and stay forward. i was just thinking the straps might help even more. the idea is you can still drop back or going into surfing stance and then slip back up into them. also still have to be able to use the steering.
cheers
ps hey is just an idea

Ah.... I missed the d/w sorry
There is a great hook type strap used on kite surf boards, not possible to get your foot stuck in & it swivels from side to side for different stance.
Cheers

You could maybe have 1 strap for your rudder foot and leave the other foot out to change stances. You'd still want to be able to get your foot out a fair bit though. It would take some getting used to I'd reckon.

actually, they might even let you paddle faster in flat water. there is a reasonable amount of effort in just bracing yourself when going fast. the straps would give you a bracing point. kind of like difference between free heel and downhill skiing. but would you unbalance your working muscles- thats the good thing about sups, an all body workout. the other point is, is it sort of unethical and taking away from the very soul of sup ing

North kite boards had an eva foam "wave shaped" back foot chock on their surf boards.....similar idea....something to brace against for more go....& airs being a kite board.
This would be easy to make & try on a sub...eva shapes well & can be stuck in place for evaluation...no screws

Not too sure if it would be an advantage or not. The trade-off with having to get your feet in and out of the straps might just negate any benefit.

what about just one big strap from one rail to the other. i'm thinking of something that just helps you from tipping forward, not total foot lock down for the ocean d/w part anyway

I reckon if you plough into the back of the wave in front and you're off balance, I'm not sure a strap would stop you falling off anyway.

How did your 17' experiment go today, did you do the downwinder from the seaway?
Would love to take a look at it.
