had a few waves on sup at palmy thrusday then went back in and grabbed my shortboard out of the cobwebs and went back out. i was sitting wide just looking to get the feel of it again. anyway, i'm sitting there waiting and i watch this mal rider paddle out and sit 5m's away from me, then proceded to take the very next wave and any other wave he could get. it's all i could do to stop myself from going back in and grabbing my sup. point is, i wouldn't dream of doing what he doing and most mal rider's do it.
so next time a mal surfer has a go at me when i'm sup surfing, i got my reply all worked out something like- i'm just doing to you what you guys do to me on my shortboard
cheers
ps i try to be new age, sharing, low rotation fun loving sup surfer

Sounds to me like you and your suplovin mates are all just frustrated mal riders deep down. If I was out on my mal and you were out on your shorty I'd burn you on every wave too.

Ha ha Lacey....that's one of the main reason I took up the SUP. Like you though, I try and be cool with the prone guys.

hi goatman, not getting many waves up here. the step rail 8'6 is a tough board to paddle. not much out on the rail to help me keep upright. got jack of it once and vowed that's it.so i went and rode my other board once, but volume and rails felt way too big on the waves. the performance of the 8'6 has got me addicted

i guess when you go small and thin it's hard to go back
cheers
ps like your last vid looks to me like you've really stepped up to another level on the turns- particularly with the rail usage. is it something you have been working on?

Hey Lacey, definately liking the thinner rails and lower volume, down to low 100s now (I'm 82kg). Bit harder work paddling but as you said very addictive. I am lucky to have Dan shaping locally and we can play around a fair bit with different things.

I hate the feel of overly bouyant Sups now, infact they feel really unstable from the corkiness I reckon....all good fun

good stuff. my board would be under 100 and i'm about 78 kgs or so. when the rail goes under in chop, it doesn't wont to come back. still i'm keen for it. probably for me, the key is to keep the sessions shorter and not get worn out by the effort of keeping it upright

it was interesting that the change back to the shortboard was easier than other times. some might say what are you on about, but hardly ever riding the shortie and almost 100% sup was making the change back hard for me when i did go shortboarding
cheers
