From what I can gather pushing through anything over shoulder high white wash or breaking waves is about the limit,so do you have to swim out dragging the board and wait for a lull then sprint or is it more about choice of break, like a point where you can paddle around the outside to reach the takeoff, any tech advice for getting out the back?cheers!

The biggest draw back of supTiming is key wait for lull and go for it. Or take the long way round. Ive had times where ive been washed way down the beach before an opening happens and I can sneak out and then paddle to the spot. I used to find it easier when the boards I was riding where longer thoughThe short sups don't paddle real fast , often have long boarders out paddling me WTF

If the waves are getting a bit too big to just paddle through while you are standing in normal paddle stance, try (just before the wave hits you) dropping your foot back into surf stance, then do a paddle stroke as the wave is hitting.

I was surprised at how well this works, especially after a bit of practice.

The paddle stroke you do as the wave hits doesn't need to be too powerful, either, it just helps with stability.
