Hey Santa did the best ever and the new go pro was in the drink today at noosa....

but the fogging of the lense is a worry....i have read the book but has anyone any tricks? is it like a dive mask? if so does spit or toothpaste help?

Anything waterproof will fog. It's the heat of the device inside that can not breath. You need to minimize the time that you have it turned on. With my HD water cam, I hold it under water and turned off when not taking footage. Particularly when it is hot, you need to be wary of the camera's operational heat. If it's external lens fogging, then nothing beats clean (no sun screen) nose grease and a good lens tissue!

The fogging is caused by the difference in temperature and rise in relative humidity (RH). If its cooler in the water than outside (which most of the time it will be) and you have either enough humidity OR enough change in temperature, you will have this problem. When you go from beach to water, the temp drops in the housing, this will cause the relative humidity to rise. Once that air inside the housing reaches its saturation of water vapour, condensation will form.

Temperature drop = Relative humidity to rise. Have enough change and the air will reach saturation and start to form condensation inside the housing.

keeping the temp constant will help. I have heard the aircon trick but havent tried it. I can see how keeping the housing in the water would help and maybe turning on off.

The solution is ... keep the AIR on the inside of case and camera as moisture free as possible (DRY A/C or SCUBA Air if you can get it ..but it must be DRY AIR )

Hair dryers carry hot moist air so make sure your pumping dry air ... be careful of those suckers being used as a solution to your problem ..

Having made the air inside the case as dry as possible ...seal it and dont open it .. keep it cool and out of the sun and use desiccant inside the close case. Get these from the Go Pro Shop or in silica gel or calcium carbonate or the little packs which are used in Taco boxes to keep those tacos moisture free ( make sure the desiccant is in good condition or replace it ) ...

DRY AIR = NO MOISTURE INSIDE THE CASE = NO FOG

those anti fog gel things are for a different sort of fog so dont really work inside your camera case ....

We use the Silica packs electrical companies use for shipping electronics in our underwater housing and my go pro - seems to work well. Trick is finding one small enough to fit in the go pro housing.

well the toilet paper tissue didnt work.....fogged in less than 15 mins and didn't go away when left for over a further 15 mins under water either so i gave up :(

lucky no waves today.

will try spit tomorrow or be forced to "buy" something to fix this....a bit disappointing to be honest. these things aren't cheap and dont come with a " you may want to fix the fogging before use ON THE BOX...rather than in the box after bought.

thanks guys...maybe i am being to hard to expect things to just work or the store to tell you what to expect ??? that would have been useful??? the use of the camera is pretty obvious yeh? :)

can fog form in a vacuum ??????

Went yesterday and yes it fogged up after a while. Went today a Moffats for an hour and a half and no fog at all. Held it open to the AC in the car before closing it and it worked a treat. Easiest solution. Thanks for the advice.

how long did you hold it for in front of the ac?

no longer then 10 seconds. Had it on high right in front of the vent and closed it whilst I held it there.
Plan to surf Moffats in the morning.
