not only did i see a whale when paddling today, i got chased by one.

saw it out the back so went looking for it. but i couldn't find it. feeling fruitless and abit more than a kay out, i was about to give up. then in came up from behind me..
i tried not to be scared but i have never been so nervous ever, never ever.
for hours it felt, i paddled around and the whale follow me and breach just a couple feet behind, then i'd spin the board around and sweep the paddle the other way to come up along side it, less than a metre away.
it was only small but still twice the length of my 11ft board. if i had to guess i'd say it was a humpback, probably because thats pretty much the only one i know, well i know it wasn't a killler whale.
paddling around in circles heart near collapse, belting between the shear tear of 'its coming straight for me' to the absolute stillness and calmness. we regarded each other.
the whale would come up and let out a bellow full of air which sounded like pressure escaping from a big hollow drum. i think i could detect an intention of communication through the control of exhale. each one was different to the questions i kept asking.
we continued to check each other out for a bit, chasing and breaching then me sweeping around. too busy lost in the encounter, i looked up to see we were now less than u hundred metres form shore, while our encounter began well out beyond the island and the point.
a group of people were watching on the beach and in the park as this whale kept following me.
we regarded each other one last time and parted ways. i paddled into the sand and was approached by a group of people walking along the beach. they had binocculars and had been watching for more than forty five minutes along with a bunch of other people who'd been watching longer.
they couldn't believe how it just kept following me. i tried to explain to them i thought it was chasing me and the huge emotion difference between the two but i could not stop smiling.
i still cant stop smiling

doc, are you sure the " Bellow full of air Which sounded like pressure escaping from a drum" didn't come from you . That sounds like a wet suit filler to me. Also, I have a small warty thing like a rash that seems to be spreading, What do you think it is and is it contagious.

Maybe it's a bit like feeding kangaroos and possums and wombats and stuff.

At first they keep their distance.

Gradually they get a little less timid.

Then they start to clamour around you.

Then they bite you ...

could be a good horror movie, something like Whale Creek. Or Moby SUP.
