Hi logman

PJ Bowers sells eva foam sheets grooved or flat, with adhesive attached if you want. They are on the gold coast but have a website where you can order from.

Hi Logman, Bowers is a good source but a bit thin, maybe get a plain sheet and a grooved sheet and stick them together to make 6mm thick.

Quite a project you have going there. The XTR styrene foam is not the easiest to use because its out gassing during laminating. It also retains the blowing agent in the foam cells un like other foams and is affected by heat. Need some help? just ask.

hey rod ,thanks for the reply, and yes i do need help.should i expect any major problems when i go to glass the board(never done this before).the construction is 2 laminated sheets of xps ,so board dimensions are 10'10"x29.5ishx4" ,with 5" nose rocker and 3 inch tail.the shape is a bit fishy, with a sortof diamond tail.the plan is west system epoxy with 2x6 oz top and bottom and single fin for simplicity .anyhow any comments

Speaking of stick and again a little off the subject. Try kneading together about a 50/50 mix of regular surfboard wax and Blu-Tac then tear off small pieces and push them onto your board. The blue colouration is a tad different but we are talking serious traction that lasts...........

Thank sugar grip works great.. if you are a masochist or self mutilator..

If you wear a full steamer wet suit and booties it's fine.

But with bare feet and boardies you better not fall on it...even climbing back on after a fall or paddling on your knees is risking the water turning red..

I paddled Phil Trigger's board and it had a sugar deck..He loves it..but he always has protection..

I still have scars on my knees and ankles for the days of windsurfers using sugar decks..

The ants love sugar as well, salt works the same and finer but you have to watch out for humidity with salt , it slows/stops the resin setting.

Anyone ever heard of sandpaper?

Logman just make sure that you seal the blank really well with a ben dover kind of mix , sealing the blank needs a thickish coat. If there are any open scratches or gaps or small pot holes make sure that you fill them and then smooth the blank with about a 120 grit paper before glassing. Run your hands over the board to feel the smoothness. If you do this properly you will minimise/stop outgassing which causes bubbling of the glass coat.

You make a thickish paste from epoxy resin with the hardner already mixed in and micro balloons or Qcells, but keep it runny about like honey on a hot day.

Pour a little off and add more Qcells to make a stiff paste, use this to fill all the deep scratches first then spread the remainder of your mix over the board.

Only do one side at a time. Allow about 4 hours then flip board over and do the same to the other side.

MAKE SURE that you cover your stand with plastic wrap before you start, so that when you flip your board it is less likely to stick to the stand.
