Sup looks similar to waveski using paddle for momentum also looks a little quicker to paddle around like a ski which is always good.Only want it for surfing ,way 92 kgs, am 44 years old but quite fit . Any sugestians on make, model size, etc

PM either myself, spencer, riverider, or any of the southern tassy crew and come and catch up at Carlton one day and check out and try our boards. we'll give you good advise on boards and paddling and a smile is guaranteed.

Yeah, come on down hobartscold, more Sups the merrier as we need to out number the surfers, especially the Sup hater ones, Spencer might even make you a cuppa. Plenty of great places to Sup, been going to Eaglehawk last tree days.

Cheers, Deano

OK, I am jelous! As soon as a finallise an insurance claim I want to get off the boat and head up Byron for a few weeks!

On the board side, don't be afraid to pick up any of the better brands 10' x 29" and above here on the Seabreaze for sale tab. Heaps of great boards at bargain price from Staboard, Naish, C4 etc, that people are selling off to go shorter.

I don't have a problem with short boarders, it's some of the other sup riders that are the problem here !

Hey Hobart.
You really only need a cheap board to start with. Try that surfboard warehouse place and pic one up cheap. Unless you like logo'e the brand name's really are not worth what you pay. You will want to get a new board after 6 months anyway. See you out there boss

No, Billboard is ok, he has only stolen 1 wave of me and now realizes that it was not the right thing to do.

For a first boatd, I would not go any smaller than 10' x 29". Best bet is to try to find somewhere you can demo a few boards to see what you feel comfortable on. Just remember it is not a competition to see how short you can go. A longer board will be a lot better for just paddling around.

I was looking on the Seabreeze buy & sell tab yesterday for a budget race board and saw some excellent all-round first boards like a 10' 6" Starboard drive. There are also heaps of old threads about the sort of board you should consider.

If anything the width of a board is what makes it "tippy". Depending how fast you pick it up paddling through the break will be bettween frustrating and impossible. You just have to keep going till you get it. Accept this as half the fun and challange and you should stick with it.

This is why I would go no narrower than 29" minimun. A well shaped 10-10'6" by 30" is nice for fit starters your age & weight? Most good brands have more than a few nice boards in this range.

I have also rode some longer boards like the 12' Hobbie, which surfed like a great mal and paddles very easy. Likewise, a few months back there was an 11' 6" or so Surftech Takayama for sale cheap on here. It is really up to you to decide what you enjoy.

Is it for me?

If u gotta ask that question the the answer is

N O

It's not worth getting excited about

Get a big board rig for $1000

!0' x 30" and get started

Whatever you get now will be replaced in 4 months anyway

If you got started a week ago you'd be almost there by now.

See you at the river

Cheers
