hi guys looking at getting a new ke nalu konhi and was wondering what flex shaft everyone was using . i have a ke nalu now with a flex 90 shaft which i was getting some shoulder soreness but with more summer paddling it has cleared up , so i was just interested in which shaft people had there paddle matched up to.

i will be using for flat water and maybe some racing , so does going to a soft shaft say the flex 70 have a adverse effect on speed or is it just in the feeling of the stroke?

thanks

What size blade are you thinking of going for?
Need to know that to recommend a shaft

If you haven't raced before it might be worth starting with a 70 to see how the shoulders stack up against the additional strain. Have you put yourself through race paces over a race distance with your current 90?

I'm 34, 6ft @100kg and running a xtuf shaft. No probs in the races for me and the shoulder never suffer.

Haven't raced but have done a lot of 5km or so time runs to and try to beat it always once a week , so probably simulated as close as I could with out racing , the pain I was getting was only for the first 1 or 2 strokes when change sides after doing 10-12 strokes on the other

i was getting some shoulder soreness

G'day bh2905 if your getting sore shoulders your just paddling wrong! if your getting sore lower obliques your paddling in the right directions. Use your shoulders as a hinge NOT POWER. After some paddling time you'll work it out,

I want a 120sq in qb V Drive but they won't make me one. So I'll stay with the 120sq in qb elite racer

I'm just lazy I'll do one stroke to everyone's two strokes

I reckon you should stick with the 90 flex shaft with the Konihi 95 blade. If you were going for the Konihi 84, the XTuf(S) 70 flex would be the go unless you prefer a stiff shaft.
You could always stick a Konihi blade in your current shaft and see how it feels.....then if you need another full paddle, you'll know if you should go with the same shaft as you already have or go for a flexier one

I'm using the 95 Blade but the 70 shaft & it's plenty stiff enough. I did the 111km Hawkesbury Race with it, do flatwater & ocean races & use it for downwinding. Great all-round paddle. I'm 6'1 & 80kg's & have used a lot of different paddles & find this to be one of the best i've tried
