Can you tell us what types you had that snapped?

Did they all snap about a foot or so from the tail?

I'm no expert in this area but I tend to grab or hold the board when I can and use the leggie as a back up in case it gets away from me..I know it's hard while you're holding a paddle.

I remember Laird saying that you should never resist while being dragged..or you'll break the leg rope..He said try and go with it.

Are your leggies getting cut by your fins?..are your fins very sharp on the trailing edge?

Breaking leg ropes is a real problem..and someone needs to make one that's bulletproof.

Mate ya gotta get yourself a 3m wet dreams or creatures of leisure leash, unless your out in 15 -20 ft Margarets these leggies arnt snapping. In over 10 yrs only snapped one of these brand legropes. Make sure you dont get the thin 2m leash, you shouldnt even consider putting these on a sup if your going out in solid stuff.

I have broken two log ropes in nine months so emailed Creatures of Leisure to see if they were bring out a leg rope for SUP boards. They replied saying they were bringing out a thicker leg rope in 10' and 12' lengths, due out in July. I'll be buying one as soon as they are available.

I agree with you DJ about trying to go with the board if you can. I try and lie as straight as I can with my legs towards the board and and arms above my head and let it drag me. Both times I broke the leash I went over the back of the wave and I didn't get the board over, its asking a lot of the leash with such a big board.

Yep i've snapped 3 leggies so far but 1 was an old old faithful and only 6ft long, surprised it lasted as long as it did, only just snapped it at fingal last wkend and only because one of my mates bailed on a wave right in front of me in the impact zone, hence i got smashed and my poor old 6ft leggie just couldn't hold. I think the old 6ft was a bullseye leggie (i don't think they even exist anymore?)

It lasted a hell of lot longer then a brand new 8ft leggie i got, it snapped after about 3 sessions.

ditto

on a 10 fcs.

i've had a heap of big drag backs and had to dive through a wave with paddle a zillion times....

not lookin forward to the day, when there is nothing there and the board is heading straight for the rocks

where do they normally snap...on the string or the plastic?

The Creatures leashes as Brooko said have been great so far but the stronger one coming out that Steve mentioned is called the Outer Reef model and goes to 9mm thick in the cord. Should more than have the strength with SUP if the stock models are anything to go by.

Sam.

Couln't agree more with the creatures leash, 10 foot knee leash is the business. A lot of solid wipeouts and don't even think about it snapping. Knee leashes are also so much better for walking around the board, just my 5 cents.

10 foot is too short if your board is longer than 9 foot

you need clearance guys and gals

DJ if its 10 foot long how the hell do you hang ten dude on your 10'6 without cranking your leggie up like a giant slingshot with your board as the projectile not a good look ..IOM...

send that leggie back and get a 12 foot+ leggie

i got 2 fcs 12 foot leggies and use 2 strings 1 longer than the other so if the short one gives out the longer one kicks in

one leggie is at least 1 foot longer after all the swell we have had over the last month

Welcome to the Breeze pumpnjump..Where are you?

I'm gunna try and swap my 10'er for a new 12' SUP specific leash..I agree..Longer is better..

I have even had to think about which foot I streach forward to hang five..

While we're talkin' leashes..DaKine have a new down winding SUP leash..It's a 10' coiled leash..and the coils are a pretty large diameter.

In a strong wind your board could easly get blown away from you and you would never catch up to it swiming your arse off.

Of course dogman is right about leash length, I ride a 10 foot Bonga, my 10 foot leash is actually 18 inches aprox longer than the board(strange, I wonder how they measure them?) Anyway its still the perfect leash for me and my board on the waves in WA.

I also have a 12ft wet dreams leash, this thing has seen some solid surf on my surfboard
i have now taking it off my 7 4 " and put it on my sup. Anyone would be mad to try and fight a hold down or foam slapping no matter what board you are on, always relax and go with it and get little sucks of air out of the foam ready for another hold down
