hi
teaching children could be an easy aim, but what about security?
could a lifejacket be suitable and advisable for kids?
could you recommend me any gear? thanks

What age are your kids?

Are you teaching them in flat water or surf?

Can they swim?

Wahu do life jackets / vest for kids, they look more like an impact vest.

I agree with Jodie and my children who can swim have worn the wahu when they learnt to surf. I have even had my 21 month boy out with me in one.

As a physical education teacher I would recommend that you look into the type required if you were going to do this for teaching other peoples children as their may be a minimum requirement for insurance, etc. We are highly governed by safety rules which is understandable in my line of work.

The Wahu , it's easy for them to paddle in with no sides. You can also take it in to a wetsuit shop and get a handle sewn on the back , which helps steady the kids on the board and pluck the out of the water .

Hi Guys,

The life jackets are great also because they absorb board impact if someone happens to flick a board at them!

The thing I make all my daughters wear is a gath helmet! I am not so concerned about them hitting thier boards it is more that we like in kook central and its other people that seem to cause the problem.

I have painted the helmets bright colors so I know exactly where each one of the is at all times. Kristis is bright Pink "coz it had to match the board duh fashsion statement" Neshas bright blue "cos she is so not a girlie girl why would you want pink?" and Nikitas yellow just "coz she loves bright yellow".

Kristi is affectiuonately know as the kid in the pink helmet, no one really knows her real name lol.

The kids have grown up with them and hassle me if they dont have them when we get to the beach which is great.

Mikesup,

Have a look at:

www.konfidence.com.au

I've found them to be pretty good.

My kids wear Wahu's, they have good flotation and give them confidence but they aren't considered to be proper lifejackets.
