i have just received a new 8 10 which we dropped the thickness down to a neat 4" and reduced the tail. this was done on the software program. takes a bit more work then the atu machines, so it is pretty much a model in its own right. anyway the software took a layer of the entire deck of the board leaving me with thinnest rails i've ever had.the litres in the board is 117l.now i thought i was 75kg, but i'm 78 even though all my pants are loose.i wouldn't like any less, it's a bit tricky, but still do-able in wind and chop.i remember rod hocker coming up with weight (kg) x 1.5 = litres needed equation. works out perfect, but i would suggest no less if you still wont to get around in average conditions.any other theories about?

Hey lacey,
I reckon there's a few other factors, width, rail shape, volume distribution concave's and V's. I've been riding a 7'6 x 30 x 4 cut and shut old sailboard, I worked out the volume as approx 110 litres, I weigh 79kg, but it feels as stable as my starboard 8'5 just doesn't have the glide. There is plenty of tail and nose width which helps, I was out in 15-20 knots with bit of chop today, only really an issue when the wind gets under the board

hey cam, i was thinking that after i posted. the 8'10' rails are low and the nose is sort of shortboard style. i think i remember that board of yours- you posted a few photos?how does it surf? yep, you have made some good points
cheers
ps i will add to this.lack of nose area i think does take away from stability, but the surf part is awesome.we took about 5 litres or so out of the standard model. i found if i balanced forward to much on one leg, the rail started going under, very hard to get back because with the reduced nose area. i'm going to work on narrowing my stance a bit to make my balance points a bit more central on the board

Hey Lacey, yeh the photo's I posted were of a 7'4 same style, I havent really had a good surf on it, I think I got the rocker or fins wrong, something doesnt feel right, it's quit hard to paddle onto waves, feels like its pushing to much water, when you're on the wave it doesn't wanna turn that well, gotta try different fins maybe. The 7'6 feels pretty sweet, feels alot like the starboard 8'5 but a foot shorter.

IMO there would be too many variables than just Ltr/kg ratio, basic surface area of board will come into play,ie you could have 2 boards same ltr's, one long, narrow and thin, one short wide and fat....another point would be the rider, height vs weight (center of gravity) will play an effect as well.....

just my opinion
