Hey lacey,
I reckon there's a few other factors, width, rail shape, volume distribution concave's and V's. I've been riding a 7'6 x 30 x 4 cut and shut old sailboard, I worked out the volume as approx 110 litres, I weigh 79kg, but it feels as stable as my starboard 8'5 just doesn't have the glide. There is plenty of tail and nose width which helps, I was out in 15-20 knots with bit of chop today, only really an issue when the wind gets under the board
hey cam, i was thinking that after i posted. the 8'10' rails are low and the nose is sort of shortboard style. i think i remember that board of yours- you posted a few photos?how does it surf? yep, you have made some good points
cheers
ps i will add to this.lack of nose area i think does take away from stability, but the surf part is awesome.we took about 5 litres or so out of the standard model. i found if i balanced forward to much on one leg, the rail started going under, very hard to get back because with the reduced nose area. i'm going to work on narrowing my stance a bit to make my balance points a bit more central on the board
