G day guys
My question is , i have been on a sup now for 12 months and currently on an Allwave 9'10 . love the board but have been looking at going shorter so that i can not only challenge myself but also have a board for all conditions as i also use an Avanti for the more on shore stuff . I came across an evoke waterborn which is 9'3 and just under 150 L . My Allwave is 190 L , so my question is . Is this a to bigger jump , i am 6'3 , about 100 kegs 48 years old and my local beach on good days gives me some nice 2 foot waves . I sup when ever i can and would get in the surf at least 3 sessions a week . At 750 Clams the Evoke seems a good value compared to the current prices you can pay now . would love to know your opinion please as i feel i might make a purchase i may regret .
Cheers all .

I haven't used the Evoke, but I think that you will be fine dropping 40L and 7" - unless the Evoke is 29" wide which will add to the challenge. I went through a similar transition in a similar time with similar stats (height/weight - at the time) and survived. In fact I went a bit smaller (8'8" X32 140L) and after a wobbly start it was all good.

The other question to ask is why you want to change boards. If you are after more maneuverability and fun on the wave, then it sounds ideal.

Hey Mick, i reckon you'd be right. All evokes are 32" wide and I use the 7'11 as I like the stability when waiting and I'm 94kgs. And throw it around no worries.

I have 2 mates who are both about 113kgs and use the 9'4 last years model and 9'2 this years model and have no worries at all. You'll feel a bit wobbly at first but that's the same on any change of boards. They are great boards, solid as and priced right. We all have the carbons too. Good luck. Cheers whitey.

At 6'2" and around 110kegs I'm getting more confident and constantly improving on my 8'8" hokua. It's always a challenge going smaller as I've learned through windsurfing, but the reward is worth the effort!

Go for it!

Sadly no... I am half-way through a six week business trip... Can't wait to get back.
