looking at visiting the noosa area for the tail end of a family holiday in early january, any advice about the best areas to stay for easy access to surf and does anyone know if you can rent an allwave or similar sup in noosa. Will be hiring a 4wd so will be able to access the national park. Any general advice would be useful, as i dont expect anyone to give away their local spots.

thanks

At that time of year expect huge crowds like you have never seen, especially if there is some swell. You will have no problem getting out to the points, just step from board to board. It's crazy.

Sameh, If you are staying in Noosa itself there are heaps of options. However at that time of year it can be very expensive. If you stay around Peregian or Coolum you will find it a bit cheaper and it is only fifteen minutes to Noosa Heads.
If you want to hire a SUP in Noosa try these:-
1. Stand up Paddle Surf Australia. Based at Noosaville and have web page.
2. Kitesurf Adventure Sports. As above.
3. Noosa Stand Up Paddle. At the Lions Park at Noosa Heads and have web page.
If you are hiring a 4WD and want to access the North Shore and Double Island Point I would check carefully with the hire company as the Major Companies like Avis don't allow you to take them up the beach. There are other low key companies that do allow beach access.
No matter where you stay there are heaps of surf options. The beach from Sunshine Beach to Coolum is 20km long with heaps of access. Coolum has numerous places. Then there is Yaroomba to Maroochy North Shore. In a southerly and with the right swell there is the fabulous Noosa Points. But be prepared for the hordes of people. There can be as many as two hundred people on a good day.
Having a 4WD will give you access to the Noosa North Shore. There are waves on the lower North Shore near the rivermouth. Then you have Double Island Point south side and the long sand bar on the North side. Heaps of places and heaps of fun.
If you need more info let me know. Cheers.
ET.

You guys crack me up. 200 people on a good day. You should try surfing around Manly. 200 people is a quiet day at the beach ; )

I will be up there for the new years period, truthfully though, I didnt find the accomodation that expensive, it was actually cheaper than staying on the south coast of NSW (which shocked me). Hopefully I will see some swell over the period and I can relearn how to deal with crowds :)

A bloke sets up in front of Noosa surf club with Sup hire with waves in front. We stayed at Sheraton and you'd be surprised how cheap it was. The best buffet breaky I've ever had (trust me, I've had a few). We paid $20 per day for kids to eat and drink all day (wrist band) and it's in the heart of Hastings St with parking underneath.
My first Sup was at Noosa - top spot.

if renting a 4wd headup to double island point for a day trip 1hr along beach northern side of headland not as crowded just plan your tides for beach access
that if you rent sup from a shop)if not main beach in front of first point he rents $25 an hr

I wouldn't pay $540 p/n with your money ET.
I think we paid about $250 in Oct 09.
Good size room and did I mention best breaky buffet ever. From experience, if a buffet breaky has smoked salmon it's the goods.

Edit: The pool isn't as nice as the website photos.
