We've got a 3yo jack russel and want to get a companion for her. What would make a good companion and a good waterdog?

Border collie.
Pic of 'Ellie' who is our dog.
Lots of energy, amazing temprement, beautiful nature, very faithful, intelligent and an all round great mate.
They also love all things water.

Oliver, more information...

Do you have a lot of time for walking etc, do you have a large yard are just a start.

I used to work with dogs and avoided recommending Collies to anyone other than those with lots of space and lots of time for exercise. Retrievers (lab and golden) are both great dogs, and love the water, although can get lazy and fat.

I would have to say one of my favourite dogs is the Staffy, they are great with families, a good size to go with your jack, love the water, don't loose a great deal of hair, all in all a great mate. Just take care buying a Staffy from anyone who can't show you both parents, or a shop that will offer some sort of peace of mind. I know of a few dogs that have been sold as staffys over the years that turned out to be pitbulls or pitbull cross. When puppies they look very similar.

I live in the suburbs, and don't have a great deal of time, but I have two kids who walk the dogs and we go to the beach quite often.

Some years ago we inherited a moody old chihuahua who hated polished wooden floors - our house has got polished wooden floors throughout.

Anyway, poor moody jodi died late last year and we are looking for another dog. Staffy sounds good.
