Im not sure if Ive already posted this story but the other week Miller and I were the first out at 2nd reef (first light).
Only to be joined by 3 other short boarders.
One of the blokes who was the stand out of the 3 was kinda arogant and had the evil stares happening.
To his one wave Miller and I would have got at least 10 and we were sitting on the inside of him. But when the sets came through he definately charged and could surf the surf.
So I started to try and loosen him up abit with friendly smiles and chit chat.
We got talking about SUPing and shortboarding and why I wasnt on my shortboard.
Anywho to cut a long story short I asked him if he wanted to have a go and he was like YEAH COOL OK.
Needless to say I got some sick waves on his shortboard while he was trying to find his balance.
Then while I was on the inside a set came and he paddled hard and took off on his first screamer of a wave on a SUP. He hooted the whole way down and as he was paddling back out. The biggest smile on his dial I saw all morning.
His mind was open and he went away having a greater understanding for the sport.
Its up to us to get out there and give the SUPing a good name.
But then again the reason why I started SUPing was so that I can get away from the usual crowded surf spots and get waves on my own
