Recently I've been noticing that when I take a stroke the paddle often feels like it is flapping through the water. Is this likely to be a technique problem or a paddle issue? I'm currently using a composite paddle with carbon blade and a fibreglass shaft.
Cheers.
It may mean the shaft is too flexy or the blade is too big for the shaft flex, or blade face shape no good.
Its usualy not a technique problem, but it can be minimised with a firm grip on the handle to stop the blade flutter from side to side & increase your board speed gradually, before really pulling hard. Also the further apart the hands are, the less shaft to flex.
Post us a shot of the blade if you can
Hope this helps
Cheers
