If you increase the thickness of your board by 2 inches, is it going to float you 2 inches higher??
And if it floats you 2 inches highes AND you increase your paddle length by 2 inches, and a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
If your floating 2 inches higher in fresh water, and you paddle into salt water will you still be floating at the same level as when you were in the fresh water, and if a saltwater croc eats a fresh water fish, does that croc think the fish needs salt?

Where is the elbow on an armchair if your paddle is 2 inches longer?
How long is a piece of string, if the piece of string is 2 inches longer than the original length of your paddle?
Whats the sound of one paddle paddling?

If olive oil comes from olives, and sunflower oil comes from sunflowers, where does baby oil come from??

VGR, you may well need to get a longer paddle but before you cut your new one do some research on what length to cut it at. Not only do you need a longer paddle because of thickness but also your paddling style may differ on a longer distance board and too short of a paddle will leave you bending over or not burying your blade properly.

There's a great article; well actually it's the only that makes any sense with relation to paddle style, reach and board thickness for the correct length of a paddle shaft.

Simple rules like 'Oh just cut it around 10 inches over head' are innacurate as paddle blades have different lengths and widths and people reach differently out in front.

Go to kenalu.com and read an article called measure twice, cut once. It really is worth your time.
