I am new to to the sport of SUP'ing

I have two paddles one that has a slightly flexible shaft(*board ali) and one home made one and the shaft is stiff as.

I like both paddels for different reasons. i am looking at getting a decent carbon one but before i spash out the $'s, i need to know.

Flexi or stiff, whats best

There's a big difference between flex and spring.. Try a Kialoa and you will know what I mean.. .. btw Stiff is bad IMO.

It also depends on what you mostly use it for.. Surf or long distance paddling.

I find stiff is good for power , makes getting on waves a bit easier....BUT I find stiff paddles gives me me aches and pains and tire me out a lot quicker than my flexible friend..

I went from super stiff homemader to a nice flexi super light kialoa shak'pu,,,, the difference was amazing.

The kialoa range, keep getting a great rap on this forum, every other paddle i've compared it to,feels stiffer and lifeless. Worth a look

For me at the mo; flexi is the go.

I got mine from over East.

I believe supsurf australia stock them now, down Margaret River way. I think he may be up this way very soon, worth giving Courtney/Martin a call if you are keen

Hey Bender
I was speaking to a guy out at isolators the other day and he said he ran the store across from cott main beach (the one with all the thongs out the front). Apparently he is selling sup's and getting a shipment of Kialoa's later this week, i still haven't been in there to check it out myself as just thought it was a souviner shop but defo worth a look.

That's Dunnie (Peter Dunn). I bought my first sup & paddle from him 18 months ago, & a new fin when I ripped out the Jimmy Lewis 13-incher at Dutchies. He's a mine of information & is right into supping himself (he has won a number of competitions longboarding over the years I think, but now whenever I see him out he's on one of his sups).

You're gunna love the Poo (Shaka Pu'u).. Here's a couple of pictures of mine that I took today.

You need to order a SeaBreeze sticker for it now.. ..and here's a link that might help you for when you do the cut.

Here.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39056&SearchTerms=cutting,a,carbon,paddle

Today was cold (freezing) overcast.. but GLASSY.. ..check out the yacht that got beached during the w/e storms.
