Hi Guys,
just sitting in the middle of the desert, a place called Al Ain in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, i have to respond to this post because, i am super excited about the upcoming opening of a wave pool here that is exactely like the siam park one, except this one has the ability to make bigger waves because the walls are higher.
Its part of a project called Wadi Adventure, finally i will be able to surf regularly. i moved to this town 16 months ago and the first thing i though was "this place would be manageable if there was a wave pool here, and 6 months later i hear that they are building the biggest man made wavepool in the world right here, couldnt believe my luck. Anyway after many months of delays, and plenty trips to peer over the fence to see the progress, Water is about to go in with a planned soft opening in Eid holidays after ramadan.
and so now i sit here still living vicariously through other peoples sessions, but it doesnt feel so depressing anymore, Stoaked!!!!!
might be a ****ty wave compared to real stuff, but at the moment i will take what i can get

Mate I hope they get this thing built A.S.A.P.and employ you as testpilot.Oh,and remember pictures or it does'nt exist...

Looks like the opposite Greeny. From the info I have seen it is a perfect barreling wave that can theoretically be ridden until your legs don't let you anymore.

Surely a wave pool like this, if it's as good as you say it will be, would be a viable business proposition at overcrowded places like the Goldy or Sydney? I can imagine having to book weeks ahead and paying $30 for a 45min session at 2am on a Tuesday

If these things are as good as they will be they will be everywhere Rager. The model looks good for surfers and business in most ways.

Pretty interesting and almost there by the looks.

I had a look at the webber wave pool website ... pretty interesting.

One thing I couldn't see addressed was the effect of the water in the pool slowly speeding up until it reached the speed of the "hull".

By that I mean the effect you got when you put 3 or 4 kids in a round pool and you all ran around the edge, creating a whirlpool effect.

Once the water was moving at the same speed as the "hull" you would cease to generate waves.

I guess they would counter this by reversing the direction every half our or so.
This would also give you a right hander for half an hour and a left hander for the next half hour.
