After some advice,

My allwave has nose butted the sand on a bail at some point and there are a couple of (4-5) small scratches, some (2-3) are through to white "gel coat" and all are about 1- 1.5mm wide.

what can i use to fill before i mount some rail tape over it....

some of the suggestions my mates have said are
- liquid paper
- white nail polish
- super glue
- spray paint

I have use the shellys knead it before but these are so shallow don't think warranted..

cheers guru's for any suggestions

Hi Air80
I think you should just leave it and try not to nose butt the sand anymore, its not going to let water into the core with only damage to the paint (its not gel coat).
If you want to sell it in the future looking it's best, take it to someone who knows how to repair properly.
Putting rail tape over the nose is odd, IMO, and if you do try to get it repaired later, then the repairer needs to try to remove the tape with out taking more paint off.
Your mates have some interesting ideas, but are they credible?????? lets see!!!!

Pete!

scratches are only just scratches.......just leave them until you have a real ding....then get the expert to do his magic

Just sand it slightly so that the resin will stick to the board, and apply a thin layer of epoxy resin, so thin that it cannot even form drops. I just use my gloved finger to rub some resin "film" on the chipped paint.
If you use fast epoxy (20mn pot life), and apply some heath after 20mn, it can harden very fast. If I remember well, 1 hour at 40 C cures epoxy as much as one week at 20 C. Be careful to not heat too early, otherwise the still liquid resin will fluidify and form droplets.

Variant: light sand + spray on automotive clear varnish.

1st time out for new board and I managed to customize it by hitting reef. Lots of scratches and paint chips to underside of board and rails. Totally gutted. Simple fix though as it all looked cosmetic damage. I lightly sanded around chipped paint work to ensure no more flaky paint., a few coats of yellow coloured nail polish. (Naish board) and all done. If I get a ding then I'd take it to the professionals who can then make good my old cosmetic repairs. I think I'll carry ding tape with me from now on.

The nail polish sounds like a good idea after all it is arcrilic lacquer anyway and maybe a light sand with 1600 or even2000 wet and dry.To polish it a bloke I worked with once reckoned brasso was the grouse,he was a panel beater by trade and the boards he polished were shmick.

Actually was DJ who recommended yellow nail polish so can't take the credit there. I purchased 4 different yellow nail polish bottles to get the colour as close as possible. The winning colour came perfumed !

recently bought second hand starboard with "atrociously beaten up rails".......sanded back to smooth.....masked board with masking tape/plastic over rest of board. Two tins of spray paint applied sparsely but often.....acrylic laquer over top.......successful operation really :)
