Hey guys just looking for some help on the high aspect paddle the main question is what size to go for . Im a 90kg guy wanting to improve my distance paddling efficiency and endurance, from what I have read I should be looking at either large or extra large ive been using a 100 sq inch standard tear drop shape .

Any help would be great

I love the new high aspect paddles.

IMO you will need a slightly smaller overall blade area and a slightly longer overall paddle length.

What brand paddle? The area measurements are all over the shop between brands so I don't think you can so easily compare numbers provided by the manufacturer.

You need to try a few different ones Mrbh to see what suits you.

Paddles can be a bit like boards, there is no standard fit.

As DJ says he likes the longer narrower versions.
I tested several different top brands recently and I bought a 102sq.in x 8.75" wide Quickblade. This suits me and what I do and am happy with my choice.

Most top brands have several styles and various areas and widths. See if you can get some differing demo models and give them a shot before you make up your mind.

I also found the KeNalu, Kialoa and Quickblade websites very usefull.

Good luck.

I,m 90kg and use a Starboard HA Large on my raceboards. Before I was using an QB Magic90 and 100. I really like the HA for slipping in and out of the water so easily. it sounds weird and as selling BS but it is a big difference and lets you easier paddling a high cadence. Very light as well so for me a lovely paddle.
It feels a bit less powerfull as my QB Magic90 (the 100 was too much for me to keep an high cadence with) while being faster with less efforts (knowing from testing on my ussual track with my Suunto with GPS and HR).
That said, I tried yesterday the QB Vdrive and imo that felt as an even better paddle.
The going in and out of the water is really really easy as well but got a lot more grip on the water. More as with any other paddle I have seen before. Haven,t tried them with GPS and HR so its just guessing, but it felt extremely effective.
If they weren't so expensive I would buy one straight away.

Mate,
There is a good thread on this in the Board Talk & Review forum, haven't got the time to find it but wasn't too long ago so shouldn't be too hard to find. Post was by Goochi, reviewed the starboard high aspect 2014 models.
Cheers.

Yes.. 90 sq inch sounds about right.. IMO

I'm 6'4'' and about 95kg.. and paddle pretty much daily and have done for the past 6-7 yrs.

I like the Kialoa Hulu Small for flat water paddling.. racing/downwinders.

It's 87'' in blade size [it's the one on the right in my pic].. Here's a short vid showing my paddle.

The paddle that I like to use in the surf is the Kialoa Pipes.. [also a very hgh aspect paddle].

If you're thinking about getting the new high aspect Starboard paddle I'd recommend getting the new 2014 model instead of the 2013 version..

They might look the same but the blade angle is different.. Newer paddles tend to have less angle on the blade.

I'm 65kg and I have been using the 2013 Small blade Starboard High Aspect. I loved it, plenty of power but much easier paddle stroke. When the new 2014 one came out, I decided to update and once again, bought the Small blade size. However this time I was quite disappointed. It just seemed really gutless. I've since switched up a couple of sizes to the Large blade and I love it - it feels about the same ease of paddle stroke as the 2013 Small blade but with more power. Taking account of your size, I think you would be fine with the Extra Large.

@Paddlezz:No just the Vgrip while paddling a bit before the races and was really impressed.
a guy I was paddling with tried also the Starboard HA + the trifecta and found the differences with the trifecta and the HA only subtle while we were both drooling over the V-grip.
