Hi guys,

I'm looking at taking the plunge into SUP and was after some advice regarding what size board to get.

I'm 92kg and 185cm.
Mainly used for the smallest waves and up to 4 foot.
Missus is also very keen to share the board (it's actually who it's really for) She's about 70kg. 162cm
I also wouldn't mind one with a mast track. I windsurf and this would be a bonus but the main idea is that it'll be a toy for the whole family.

There's a 11'6 Naish on ebay (doesn't say what sort) which looks alright but I'm a bit worried that it is too long.

Thanks.

That 11'6" Naish sounds perfect.. btw It's a Naish Nalu.. also look at the 11' and 11'6" NSP.. (but no mast base hole in them).

Starboards usually have a mast base hole.. I just checked ebay and that looks like a great board and a good price.. imo.

11.6 is a beast for your other half,at both your weights I'd be looking for something around 10 or 10.6.

11'0 NSP is hard to go past in your first year of supping. They are probably the best value for money sup on the market and for beginner to intermediate of any weight and size you cannot go wrong. Also if/when you decide to downsize in a year or so the nsp 11 will be an easy board to sell and you won't lose nearly as much money as you would on many other boards.

How about the starboard 10'5" or the new fanatics? I think they will take a mast base.

I've purchased the Starboard Element, arriving this week...can't wait!! Mainly for myself but also for my wife to try. It's 9'8" x 30" wide, good for flat water or surf and has mast track and foot strap points.

I'd recommend demo'ing a few boards (sizes and brands) to see what is best for you, in my limited experience here's a few websites to get started

Personally I think an 11'6" would be too big.

I started on a Coreban Rockett 10'6". I am 90kg and 5'7" (not sure what that is in metric). The Rockett is great in the size waves you describe but is also used by my wife, 10 year old and 8 year old. It is also fun when you just go for a paddle because there is no swell.

Check the Coreban boards out at -> coreban.com/

Try and demo one, if you can.

I'd agree with that, the 11'6 is quite an old design now and ideas have come a long way in SUP since it was created.

From what you have listed as your intentded use and the fact you wife needs to ride it as well I would be looking at something around 10ft and 30in wide. Should give you all the stability you need and be versatile enough to keep for quite a while.

Here are a few to look at.
Naish 10'6 wood (this might be a bit tippy for you)
Naish 11'4 wood not the AST as it does not have a mast track
Fanatic 10ft and 10'6

All the boards above have mast tracks and will do what you are looking for Star board also have a few in this size with a mast track but i'm not sure on what ones.

I also agree the 11'6 might be a bit big for your wife but also rember she will more than likely stand on any thing you can, beingshe is lighter!!

If you don't need the mast track then it opens up heaps more boards.

Thanks everyone for all of your recommendations, It sounds like I'll steer away from the big ebay Naish, my eye missed things such as no carry handle; I reckon little things like that would make a big difference.

The sites look really good to

I think I'll need to get down to a shop and demo a few. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
