Hi i usually kite but would like to start sup for the days that the wind dont blow.
I am 112kg 6ft2 used to surf a bit, only 3ft and clean on a long board tho, certainly no expert and would like some advice on what to go for first. have read on the forum that the fanatic all wave is popular. I will be using it on estruary mostly, where a small 3ft wave will probably be my max, the idea of overhead waves on a big stick makes me a little nervous.

At your size id be getting a decent size board around 10 to 12 ft. The Laird boards look prettty goodMy PSH 12,6 would be a good board for what you want , surfs pretty good for its size and good for flat water paddles too.

Joe I am a smidge under 100kg and found the Starboard 10x34 and JP 10 x 33.5 to be spot on.

I had a go on a 10'6" x 31 a few years ago and it was harder than the above, but in all honesty you will be paddling around and not falling off after a couple of 30min sessions. Trouble is, then you think it is do-able and you are sady mistakan when there is a bit of swell and 5 -8kn wind.

Go wide.
If for your 3rd to 10th sessions you didn't fall off, and it hurts everywhere the next day, then that is good.

Have a look at the Jimmy Lewis Maestro 10'3 x 35 and 210 liters of volume.
We had at out school and they work great for heavier guys.
They do surf pretty well too and as all JL very well made.

If you are in the Sydney area did you see the big Nash Mana going cheap on the Buy & Sell tab? Heaps of good second hand boards out there.
