c4 subnine x wing. tried and got this paddle. they are brilliant

super light, thin shaft with just the right amount of flex.

you can tap along with half or so of the paddle in or bury it and get great power with what seems less effort. all the catch and power happens up the front and it encourages you to get the paddle in front or a least level with feet.

blade size is 100 sq " , but its thinner and longer.

i believe this could be the direction of future sup paddle blades.

travis grant will be using one in the doctor race

cheers

ps disc- the usual denial. no c4 ties

Thanks for that LL - would you use this type of paddle as your distance paddle or for the surf or both?

Very interesting, the blurb on the site was confusing though, keen to take a look at this one Mark.

On another note, has anyone seen the KeNalu yet? Any reviews?

Would love to see some reviews of the new X Wing vs KeNalu vs QB Elite vs Kialoa maybe Toro?

Time for a paddle test of the new tech vs the old?? Are any magazines neutral enough to do this?

Some of the Melbourne boys have the KeNalu. I thought DJ did some pics?

I felt it, and it is super light. I didn't use it. It would be roughly low 400's (grams). I know my paddle is 408 grams, and it felt pretty similar. Quickblade is Elite is in that circa 400 grams, give or take a little bit, shaft length, etc.

The KeNalu does have a relatively deep Vee (dihedral) on both sides of the blade face at the top. And is probably hollow through that part of the blade. Bottom part of the blade moves into a slight "scoop".

Edit - Here it is....

It's great to see lots of 'very good' paddles out there now.. I have a new Ke Nalu.. It's very good.. I think I like the thin blade and shaft shape on my Kialoa Toro better.. The Ke Nalu's have a similar feel to me to the QB Elite.. It's also a great paddle.. The Ke Nalu is the lightest closely followed by the Torro (only a few grams) and then the QB Elite.. I'd like to try this new C4 x wing and see how it compares.. BTW.. I just read that Werner have just released a new SUP race specific paddle and are claiming theirs is the lightest.. It should also be interesting.

I have the Ke Nalu in all three sizes here on Sunshine Coast. Happy to let anyone try mine if here and hope to get a training run in on the Goldie in early Feb.
Please pm me if keen. Everyone has a preference, have had the QB, Kialoa and simply prefer the Ke Nalu. Best feature is the ability to hair drier heat the parts if traveling to take apart and the extended T handle allowing height adjustments.

interesting.

i used the paddle in dw run today. i really like.

i almost had a fall, but i stuck the paddle out like you would on a bottom turn when surfing and dragged myself up right.

don't think that would have happen with my other paddle

I had a quick go using this paddle and it felt very good. The paddle strokes are fairly effortless and although you don't feel as though your getting as much power per stroke as some bigger bladed paddles, you can get a higher sustained stroke rate without tiring so much.

Interestingly, when I asked about the price at one of my local shops that had them in stock, the guy there hadn't set a price as he wasn't happy with them. In his opinion they didn't have enough flex and the extra carbon at the base of the shaft would leave it open to breaking (he hadn't even used it and was clearly not planning on selling any!).

Very open minded of him hey?? Haha.

I had a quick go today of Laceys and it feels nice, actually has quite a bit of flex so not to sure what old mate in the shop is talking about.

IMHO C4 paddles are bullet proof. I have one that I have abused for almost 5 years, still going strong and with me through the raw beginnings.

Based upon the feedback from the U.S and guys here as well I'd love to try one of those KeNalu. All feedback is insane so far.

Pono Bill designed them by taking all of the paddles on the market and attaching sensors to them and also videoing what did and didn't work.

He has vids etc on his site, by all accounts he took the best features from all of the best paddles and CNC designed a blade that is smooth, has no flutter and much less swirly vortexes. The feedback as I have read everywhere is that they are lighter, have amazing grip for the blade size and are very well built in comparison to the other established and reputed brands.

I am yet to see one though, not sure if anyone on the Goldy has one. JT from the Sunny Coast liked them so much he got all 3 sizes.

Pretty keen to see what all of the fuss is about.
