I think Laceys board he has now would work better in good waves than it does in poop. I thought he was talking about 4-5 feet alley waves when it is kind of bumpy and fat and more rangey. Perhaps that's why he's not looking at something gunny.
What do I know but anyway, I haven't even ridden my surf SUP for at least 3 or 4 months.
i'm thinking mainly when there is some bump, wind, strong currents running out of the creek which can go go sideways down laceys or going back towards the rocks and the backwash that comes off the southside off the breakwater. cop some of that backwash or side chop, the 8'6 stepper disappears under the water

so i suppose it more about handling the conditions, not about the 8'6 not handling the waves
something that's not going to wear one out before you even get a wave.
i reckon the oc1 has helped my balance. because you use your hips to lift the ama or to keep it in the water, that transfers to using your hips more to balance the tricky small sups i believe
still if you like to see some one fall in the water for no real reason while more or less just standing around waiting -watch me
