After being out of the water & not surfing for about 15 years, ive finally found some spare time & motorvation and been enjoying surfing on a 12ft sup for the last 18 months. As ive rediscovered my love for the surf ive been getting wet as often as possible until my big board let me down as i was trying to make a bottom turn on a decent sized wave. As i came undone i collected my centre fin in the ribcage breaking a couple of ribs.
ive just bought myself a second board, 9'11 which ca be set up as a thruster or quad. i havnt ridden a quad before and just wondering what the pros vs cons are.
if a quad feels looser on a wave will it make the board a dog to paddle ?
cant wait to get back in the water and try it out for myself

i knocked the centre fin out of my 9ftr the 1st wave of a session a while back.
the board went absolutely nuts as a twinny.
after the session i stuck it in the roof of the shed to dry the water out for a week then got the damage from the missing centre fin fixed and the board set up as a quad.
its one hell of a lot faster because of the added drive, but i wouldn't say looser through turns than when it was a thruster or the time i rode it as a twinny.
it turns a lot tighter but the turns aren't loose or slidey and it is definately a lot faster down the line and more stable in the bigger stuff
