The best thing to do is read the oversize baggage section on the airlines website. Then call as well and confirm, keeping the information on screen to quote it. I've been burned so many times by airlines. And the most important thing to do is check if you have connecting flights with another airline. My bike box got screwed and I missed 3 flights in a row due to different dimension regulations bewtween flights. Just sort it all before you leave, saves you headaches. Also, check where you're going. Maybe you can just rent some?

P.S. All American airlines are **** and don't care about you. American Airlines, United Airlines, Alaskan Airlines etc. I have unfortunately had to fly them at least a half a dozen times in the last two years and have had worst all round experiences.

Hawaiian & Air Pacific are the most board friendly ,they are 1 & 2 on a scale of 1 to a 100 that puts Jetstar at a 100.

Had not probs with Qantas and Hawaiian at 10 4.
Going with Air Asia next year to Bali I think they have a 2.77 (9 1) limit so might be demoing some smaller boards perfect excuse to get a 9 1 Quad lol

taken my 9'9" on air asia to Mentawai .....6 different flights and 6 different prices to pay for the boards.....typical asia, no real rules... 5/6 were the same as a standard surfboard (about $10) and once was $100. Had 3 surfboards all up so stoked with the freight charges. The key was the weight actually, they had an allowance of 20kg for sport equipment so keeping it light will help.

Got back from Bali last night.
Flew Air Asia. I was unsure about taking a Sup so I took my 9' longboard in a 10' board bag. There was no problems at all they were only interested in the total weight of the board. Will take the Sup next July for sure if we travel Air Asia again.
