Styro soaks water up real quick and it is not easy to get rid of.
A dry land ding is very different to a solid reef smack and 20mins paddling afterwards.

Advertised weight is way off actual weight most of the time.
Even 50ml of water in the board is bad for the foam.
Weight is good if you weigh the board when it is new so you know its actual weight. If you get a ding you can weigh it with the same scales and know exactly how much water is in it.

An easy check is to remove the vent plug, tape some clear plastic over the vent hole to seal it and put the board in the sun. If condensation builds up inside the plastic the board has water in it.

Easy: drill a hole in the board, and insert a tissue, it must get out dry.

Of course not really an option on other people gear, but I have done it many times when I didnt want to wait for a ding to be completely dry before going back to the water:
- extract as much water as possible in a day
- repair
- go surfing
- when back at home, drill and let dry
- to go surfing, 5mn epoxy glue in the hole, and aftwerwards, re-drill at the same place...
- when dry, cleanly fill the hole, sand, paint.
