Hi there JEG,

Yes we're a very sociable bunch over here in the West, some of us race, some surf, some just paddle socially and some do it all. I live on Sanctuary Lakes and regularly train on the lake and at Altona, Willy Beach, down at Werribee and on the river at Footscray Rowing Club.

I would advise you join SUP Vic, only costs $50 per year for single or $100 for a whole family, there's a wider community with groups spread about the region that you'll get access to along with a lot of valuable information, but crucially being a member gets you insurance at sanctioned events and also news letters and updates as to what's on around the bay.

What you need to look up is SUP Vic Melbourne West Pod on Facebook where you'll be gladly welcomed by the crew.

I saw you were looking to buy a board for you and the Mrs to use, have you bought one yet? Happy to offer a little advice in that respect.

Look forward to catching up on the water sometime soon.

Dave

cheers dave and supvic tis. Knew the lake was there but didn't realised the scale of it (about 20mins from my place). Is deep alround the lake and where do you park and do you paddle along the circle edges or roughly in the middle?

There are quite a few spots to paddle in Melbourne's west. We are around, and somewhere on the weekend we're paddling. More than happy to have you join us. We have our monthly 5.0 tomorrow from 7.00am. This is a time trial where you race the clock on the Maribyrnong. Regardless of ability or your board, you set a reference time, then aim to improve on that time each month. Only you get to see your time.

We're also working on a Halloween social paddle next week. Details on the Facebook page in the coming days.
