It's been 12 months on the SB 11.2 and I'm itching for something smaller and better in the surf, around the 10.0 x 30 range, looking around everything appears to be geared to 28 wide but I like the stability of 30. The only shorter boards I have paddled have been the oxbow 10.0 and the JL 10.0 and they both felt ok, the JL ripped in the surf.

PSH 9'6 wide ripper and the bigger AA
Naish 9'6
They are all about 29-30 inch wide
Can't think of a 10 foot * 30 inch board off the top of my head but I'm sure some one will know one

If you could ride the oxbow 10 footer then these boards will be a peice of cake.

At 73kg you might out grow a 9'6 board if all you want it for is wave riding then as scotty said the 9'3's would be the go

arghh I can't wait that long, and my problem is I will probably never see most of the boards mentioned let alone get the opportunity to demo them. I don't want to go too short as the waves I surf are in the range of 1km offshore and more.

I have a 9'6 Naish that is really too big for me - I'm 68kg though. Not sure about the others but the Naish glides surprisingly well, a paddle of a 1 or 2k is nothing on it. Wouldn't get too fixated about the length, I think the rocker and plan shape has much more to do with it. I went from the 11'2 Starboard but didn't go far enough!

mate look on ebay there is a really nice Laird 11 ft 27 inch WIDE (thats the crucial for manouverability.and thickness.. i reckon that would rock in the surf and still long enough to get you out to the 1km waves =)
Oh its in Perth too so postage shouldnt be an issue ..unless your in Kalbarri or suntin

I was going to buy it but i think im a little to heavy for it i,m 87 kg =(
Good Luck

paddling a couple of km's is no worries even on boards like the 9'3's so don't let that put you off. I'll quite often paddle my 9'3 on some of the fitness paddles and yes it is a little harder but the pay off when you get it out in the wave would be well worth it.

I'm also 73kgs, & bought a 9'8" *board pintail 7 weeks ago. Came down from JL 11'. Love the *board, feels like a shortboard after the 11-footer, but still very stable. If you're down Cott way you can have a paddle.
I've been meaning to go to Lano, so if you're up there I can try to catch you there sometime over the next fortnight.

Thanks mollydooka , I'm in Gero for now, the 9'8 sounds interesting, is it me or do the PSH boards have the popular majority among the shorter board paddlers?

If you like 30" then I reckon you should stick with Starboard.
I think Scotty and Sven know what they are doing and are onto something with the new 09 range. So much to choose from.
The Starboard 10'5 to me is just a shorter version of the 11'2. Less board to carry and less board to through around on the wave and you can still nose ride the 10'5.
The Starboard 9'8 is a loose goose and still can be paddled offshore at 30".
And if you want an even looser moose you gotta try the 9'8 x 28.5". Obviously a bit more tippy and would require a bit more concentration.
If you want tough construction, durability and a deck that doesnt sink where you stand, then dont look past Starboard IMHO

sorry, my abbreviation might not have been apparent: *board is short for Starboard.
