Hi all

With the downwind season coming to a close and people start thinking about flatwater races, also with this new sprint race format coming up in SA soon, I was wondering what is a good speed/time for an all out sprint?

Say over 200metres, are we really aiming for speeds of plus 10km/hr to be competitive?

Just interested to know how fast guy's are pumping through the short distances of 200m and 500m?

Cheers

I would guess at that short distance well over 10k would be achievable. I think the top paddlers average above that for 5k or more. I love sprint racing , nothing beats all out speed , yeeew I know a guy that would smash this type of racing given the chance , and he is the brother of pretty handy paddler.

Sub 1 minute is very good for 200m, Peter Pridmore won the Black Blade in ~1:54 min from memory. It's a great format as it opens up the racing for a new group of paddlers. Suits the surfers as they do a lot of sprint work every wave session.

I think Connor wrote something a little while ago saying he was doing something around 50sec for 200 metres.

Personally, because I have the worlds shortest attention span, I love the idea of sprint racing. Apparently it is huge in the States but doesn't seem to have taken off over here. I reckon, so far, we are yet to fully explore the various racing disciplines.

Geeez that's quick. So I think in summary, anything under 1min for 200m is GREASE LIGHTNING?!!
