Here is a world famous point break, that no one sups - bar one and she's special (and on small days)...
There is discussions that a board with leggy the size of a sup would course serious carnage in the existing tight lineup and generally considered that from the 'hut' down is okay but 'oh no don't venture forward of that', which is respected by the local sup crew...
But what would happen if there was a sup comp' would the fine folks from in and outta state converge, only to be denied the pleasures of said point, with pain of death cast against a fine - up standing surf shop owner, if the local code was broken?

Some places will always be off limit to SUP if you have half a brain. That place will always be one of em along with places like North Narrabeen and a few others - not worth the grief.

If there is already 15 / 20 short boards in a compressed take off zone , keep paddling the other way

I guess that just depends where you live, if we did that on the Goldy we would never get to surf anything other than the crappiest closeout beachie, which is ok sometimes, but not all the time.

It is what it is.
In a perfect world we could all ride what we like where we like, but.... the world aint perfect. A clueless core use the floatation advantage of bigger boards to exploit and plunder. Locals being locals dig in their heels and draw a line in the sand. Been there done that and understand exactly the paranoia of where they are coming from, but for anyone who wants to travel and broaden their surfing horizons it's a hypocrits fantasy. Cant surf mine but I can surf yours. As the Goatman said, there are places where its just not worth the grief. Beauty of Stand Up is that there is allways a peak just down the beach or around the corner. Enjoy
Cheers

Ditto, couldn't agree more
I have copped localism on my shortboard on many occasion let alone SUP abuse. Just ignore them and they soon go back under the rock they crawled out from

There is only one rule, "Don't ruin anyone's day."

That decomposes into sub-rule a) "Don't hit anybody" and b) "Don't get hit."

There is an implicit clause where you don't hog all the waves.

If you can surf a break without causing carnage then go right ahead. if you can't, then go somewhere else.

The only complexity in this rule is whether you are self-aware enough to correctly assess your ability to ride the spot in question, and the conditions are suitable for your skills and equipment.

classic topic

i think it all comes down to the conditions, your ability and the manner that you conduct yourself in the water

at the mentioned pt break yer sure the local surf shop owner is gonna cop it as he already does....hahahaha....hahahaha....hahahaha....

just go hit it and remember to sit down and wait in between waves and let everyone get a couple....and dont kook your first wave ...or drop in on one of the boys.......dont hit anyone........ and dont park your car within 20km......just smile and have a good time!!!!!

ive sup'ed that spot about 8 times and had an absolute ball

sure i got told to f@rk ff but i cant hear real well from play drums all my life...lol.....

Problem with SUP is that we are so bloody obvious. The trick to catching waves at heavily localised spots is to become the invisible man, a total non threat. In thirty five years of short boarding I've covered a lot of the East Coast. Surfed the afore mentioned point heaps and to be honest it was'nt the locals that were the problem. It was all the frantic Brissos, Viccos, Brazos and Euro Packers who wanted their own slice of the legend. Try going to the small town local spots like some of the those in Down South New South and Vicco. Nowhere to run nowhere to hide, on a shortboard you are not going to be welcome on a SUP with an unfamiliar face youre just asking for trouble. I dont like it but I cant change it. If you're going to paddle spots that are off limits you need to be bloody competent and safe otherwise you're just going to screw it up for those who come after you. And the my stick is bigger than you're stick crap is at best going to require you to put you're war face on everytime you get wet and at worst ..... Bottom line is you're going to need a hide like an elephant or a personality to equal the Dogman or a combination of both.
Good Luck
Cheers

Try surfing North Narra for example, on a Sup when it is half good, f#ck up and you better be able to blue cause there are some mean mothers out there.

Mate of mine had his jaw broken out there by some psycho local with an ice problem and he was a short board rider who lived there at the time.

I don't like it either but I still reckon there are some places that just aren't worth the trouble.

its a free world surf were you want but have the common sense to know your
limits and to know the break you are about to surf.I choose not to surf there for my own personal reasons.

Like to see some of "the surf where you want" internet tough guys surf out Northy on a SUP on a swell.

At some places surfing is still tribal enough that some sh!t is just not permitted-and hallelujah to that.

There's a time and place for everything and SUPs just don't belong at some spots, The Point included.

The reference was to Lennox, ya' grumpy ol' bugga. DY Point is definitely NOT THE POINT at least outside the little cosmopolitan cosmos of DY.

sounds to me like you're talkin about sandon

I reckon you just cool your jets for a generation, then when the locals have been forced out of their burb by rich tools with no idea and all the gear, all the 'hardcore' sup crew can masturbate on about how local they are and hold all the comps they want....

for the jury I submit exhibit A below
