Who here surfs with a wood paddle?
I hear they are gentler on your shoulders (due to a bit more flex?).
They sure look fantastic.
What is your favourite brand?
Who sells in Aus?

Naish will have a great looking wood paddle available soon that will have a carbon shaft so you would get the best of both worlds..

There's a local guy here in Melbourne making some very nice wood paddles and he uses a cool looking bamboo shaft.

Thanks DJ - I thought it was the wood shaft that gave the benefit?

Have a look at Xylo Bladz - www.xylobladz.com/ These are full wood construction. I have handled one of these, it was lighter than I expected and has a lot more flex than a normal carbon paddle.

Waka.. There is good and bad things about the wood shafts imo.. There's no doubt that they look great.

They flex (some of them) but I don't think they have the same springy feel that some carbon paddles have and they are more likely to break.. (again imo)..

Scotty has been using a wood paddle that has a beefy stiff shaft but a long flexy blade.. He liked that heaps.

I like the very thin shafts of the Kialoa's and I can't imagine having a wood paddle shaft that's that thin and as strong or as light.

It will be interesting to hear how Stoneaxe's new wood paddle is (the one that he won).

I've also heard great things about BoardBumps wood paddles but not used one myself.
