Hey everyone
Although I have been surfing shortboards almost my whole life (46yo now and 80kg) I dont know much about longboards. These days I mostly ride fishy hybrid quads and some thrusters but ride em real short since they have a fair bit of volume for short boards between 5'4 and 5'8.

Well, I picked up a second hand performance longboard cheap. Mostly gonna ride it with my kids on the board with me but I will have a go on the smaller days and when I don't wanna paddle my shorties. It's a 9'1 x 22 1/4 x 2 3/4. It has a ton of tail rocker and the rail is quite thin for 2 3/4. Though the tail has a 50/50 rail with no hard edges at all.

Anyway, I have some questions about fin options. As a shortboarder I figure a 2+1 would be more familar than a larger single fin so I've ordered a standard 7" performance fin (its actually made of performance core honeycomb with basalt glass, apparently this particular has more flex than stanard glass) and intend to ride it with some flat foiled medium K2.1 quad rears which have slghtly more area than regular site bites.

Of course I will have to play around with different options but don't wanna go spend a whole lot of cash either. I was told with a 7" fin I may be able to ride it with some size 5 regular old (medium) thruster front fins, well see. Can you guys give me any good recommendations on fins and if I have gone the right direction.

I was also wondering if anyone has tried the Takayama Halo center fin with regular side bites? I can get one cheap (a 7" or an 8.5") and apparently it turns real well though I am not sure if it only works well with the recommended side fins. Anyone tried?

Thanks for your feedback and recommendations :)

Ripper wave ripper.

Welcome to the dark side, I just got a long board as well. Fair warning, you will become addicted, another surfing dimension to explore.

As for fins, I got no flippin clue. But given you're only riding it with the kids and to mess about whack whatever you can get cheap in and go from there.

I've got glassed in 3.5 side bites and a 6.5 centre styled like a dolphin fin. Big old plastic fantastic and it rocks for me skill level. Once I get a bit more feel for the board itself I'll upgrade to a 7" glass flex.

Good luck with it and most of all go have fun.
