As title suggests, anyone have any opinions as to wether two litres in volume makes much of a difference in paddle power?

Hope everyone has scored some frothable waves as of late.

I reckon 2 ml of rum would literally kill me, being a non drinker, I do not want to try it!

Good advice but not referring to a longboard. I know I could paddle a longboard no matter the volume.

I usually ride 28l and am thinking going 26l. More of a performer shape.

Anyone got any comments?

Have a good dump before a surf..that'll improve your floatability. don't worry about the board.

Depends how above or below your perfect volume, shape of board (surf area) & rocker. Surface area also adds to float & less rocker pushes less water when paddling ie easier to paddle. The type of waves your going to be surfing play a big part in how a board is going to perform also. If they're sucky, your going to want some rocker, flat then just a little....I think considering your age & I guess your weight to be about 63-65kgs. You could probably go as low as 24 depending on board shape & waves. 26 should not be a problem, I was surfing about 24Lt at your age & I was 75kgs.

What board are you considering mate?

Good post mate.

Weight is spot on.

Was considering a 5'9 ecs reaper. Something that is a bit of a performance board with a good bit of volume too.

Getting it mainly for a July trip to Ujung Bocur. Will still ride it here when the waves are good but I usually ride my 5'4 bulldog when it's not so great.

Cheers

Litres,I have two boards that have the same amount, yet they are well and truly two different beasts. One I can surf in bigger g beachies. Thick punchy and bowly waves,it loves it....yet the other one replaces my longboard at times, big fat rails, flat as and love the small tiny stuff. Litres are a good idea on where the board is at. But as said before, width, plan shape and rocker will give you more idea

Nozza, two litres of rum in me I would be surfing chopes

Try the volume calculators at the ci or FireWire site and see what they say. My guess is you'd be ok. But as others have said lots more to it than just volume

Over the last 12 months have been playing around on a number of different SUPs ( not longboards I know ) , but its amazed me how a board of 20 litres less volume can be more stable , and likewise boards with 20 litres more can be faster and looser , think it comes down to things like distribution of volume , bottom shape , etc , - even a change of fins or throwing in a little nubster can make a huge difference to a board ,
thought my new board lacked a bit in straight line speed put in a nubster - had the speed wobbles Thursday night

how is the surf on the east coast mate , hear they had to cancel the east coast classic last weekend as no swell - all swell here lately been mid week making it tough to get out with the short days

lol I meant "(surface area)", but I guess surf area makes sense too even if I'm mentioning it twice. I wrote this before work this morning.....Looking at the ECS range there, I reckon the FF2 would be more versatile. Looks like a nicer shape to me & you can go quad if the waves are breaking pretty quick. You could go your usual volume with the 5'10 & save some energy to catch more waves. Those long paddles after flying down the line on Indo waves can get tiring. Or you could drop to 26Lt with the 5'8. Just bear in mind the 28.5Lt Bulldog has a flatter rocker & is wider, so it'll paddle a bit easier than the 28 Lt FF2 or Reaper. Maybe just stick with 28Lt if it feels right or go to 26 if you feel you could go less.

A lot of people push for shorter low volume boards & I think thats the go if your doing heaps of airs. I don't, so I go with more than my recommended volume & catch more waves due to energy levels & ease of wave entry.

Yeah pretty good fun aside from the flat periods. Been great, Shelly's is pumping at the moment and surfing the gutter, a right handed near dark hollow.

Good fun!

Make sense but not a fan of quads, they are too skatey. Also, I get plenty of waves as it is, usually 35 plus in a 3 hour session depending on consistency. Fitness is good

I am more worries about not being able to paddle into the waves. I dunno, I have a mate who's riding on 24 l and is heavier by about 10kg so I will have a crack on his sticks and see how I go.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

2L is not a lot to be honest TC considering all of the other stuff that goes on. Also you are riding EPS cores from memory so you get a bit of benefit there as well compared to a PU board.

I think its time you hardened up

If you think about your weight / litre ratio - its poor compared to mine and I am a lot older than you ! Just saying

Recall though that 2L at 28 is bigger % than 2L at 40.

My indo quiver at you age was a 6'1 x 19 x 2 5/8 Jim Banks custom, a 6'10 x 19 x 2ish Rusty step up and a 7'6 x 18 x 2 1/4 rusty indo gun....I was weighing in at about 90kgs and I thought litres was something you measured you measured kegs in......just make sure you get something thast a good paddler and will hold a nice high line

I'd agree Ted. Need to harden up. And yes it will be EPS.

Going to ride a mates 24l DHD so I will see how that goes and decide.
