Hi,
I am travelling and can't take the longboard.

My options seem to be:
1. Take the 8'6" soft-top. That is what I did to Lord Howe Is.
Can surf it but I don't like to.
2. Find out where you get the board I saw once..
The board was a shortened mal but with the volume of a 9'2" board in an overall length of about 8'

Is there a walk-in shop in Sydney somewhere?

I think the board you saw would have been a Walden Super Wide. Have a look at the global surf industries site and it will link to the Walden.

How is it you can't take a longboard but you can take an 8' or an 8'6? is it an issue of weight or length? I can understand if you're riding something silly like a 10ft'er?

Length, JetStar are saying a 9' limit and my two favourite boards are 9'2"

I did and it looks perfect. I assume that it is a polyester resin board but am not sure from their specs. I associate Global with epoxy boards. I also found a Surfblanks blank:
8'7'' Longboard 24 5/8'' 3 1/4'' Med volume mini
.. now to find out who I trust to make a board out of such a blank..

For the record I ended up buying a 7S Super Fish XL (from Surfection at Mosman).
