Hi Breeeeezerzzzzz...

After Bali I realise the quiver has a hole in it. its not really my thing but i think i need a board for fast, hollow, larger, down the line type stuff. something i can duck dive... Generally if the waves require this i just surf somewhere else but i'm feeling like i need to challenge myself again in these waves, that and lefthanders

I like the look of Millers Semi-Gun's and i'm sure SDR has something in the arsenal but just opening up to any helpful suggestions before i contact these guys...

And Yes, I realise this technically is for the short board room but you guys know my style a bit more...

And good luck trying to get me into an MCT here Team Mctavish

I think she'll need to be 7' or under to DD...

and yes Cobra, i'm a die hard LB'er but you've gotta work with the conditions and my local is rarely LB friendly

Talk to a local tassie shaper?
I know my single fin is my go to.for easy paddle and pure down the line speed. Loves a barrel. I find it fairly easy to duck dive for such a big board, you just have to have good timing.

MC reckons his Islander model has been super popular with his crew who are older, or heavier or longboarders (or all of the above).
Worth throwing in the mix for your consideration. He's another shaper who knows how to give you plenty of foam in a well thought out blend.

I'd say something like a 6'4 x 20 x 2.75 that maintains width through to the nose, little rocker with late kick in the nose. SDR has heaps to choose from...or if your lucky, you might still be able to pick up a HS psychedelic germ for $600 which includes delivery from global surf industries. I've only tested it up to head & a 1/2, but its currently my favourite board. Stick massive fins on it & it will put you anywhere on the wave you wanna be

I'd have a chat with SDR about his Bee-sting, his team rider Macca had one out yesterday at LM and it sure looked impressive and quick.

If you want something fast and down the line then have a look at a Maurice Cole Protow - those things carry a lot of foam and would suit anything you were happy to paddle out in. Rocket ships. It normally takes a bit of time to get one though.

http://www.mauricecole.com/boards/protow/

If you are looking for something more for your island type adventures then you can not go past a Mitchell Rae - he has several boards that would fit what you are after - the semi-gun pro or the easy rider. His boards last and are glassed nice and heavy as a general rule. Everyone should have one of his boards at least once ! He is a living Bali explorer legend from the early days. He also does there pretty amazing flex tails as well - be prepared to pay for them though !! !! !!

www.outerislandsurfboards.com/boards.html

As mentioned Grant Miller does a lovely semi-gun as well. How much do you weigh? He called me the other day and offered me one of his old 7 foot guns for a good price - was just a bit to thin for me at 2 5/8. Might suit you? Its listed at bottom of his front page Semi-Gun 7'0" X 19 1/2" X 2 5/8" Rounded pintail.

Most importantly though - make sure you post pics when you get it.

Crispy's singly looks sick...Maurice's boards and Michaels are also awesome for Indo waves but might not be as good if you want to ride it at home where the waves are a little lumpy....I got a new 6'4 off Corey Graham here in Torquay and can't recommend him highly enough...he holidays in Tassie so he should know whats going on boards wise down there as well....did I mention he's reasonably priced!!

Thanks guys... I'll check out those options.

I'm 180cm and weigh in at 85kg...

I guess I want to surf it at home, I'll send some pics of wedge, it's a fast hollow lil barrel, to hone my skills so I can better handle when travelling and stuff. My preference will always be a long peeling, shoulder high, right hand point on the log though...

Might talk to grant about that gun too ...

Meanwhile, in super stoked as there's a siiiiiiiiiick looking point swell on the way... Yeeeeeeoooow!

Why go short, if you are comfortable on a lb then if it's bigger just ride what your more comfortable on.. Going from a log to a SB is tough, especially if it's larger. The likelihood is you won't paddle hard enough, end up in the lip and get flogged.

As a rough guide...

9x16ishx22.5x13.5x 2&3/4 as rough dims.

Flat nose. Hard edged rails. Bit of tail kick.

Put your head down, paddle hard, keep your back foot over your fins, stay low and grab your rail if it's backhand.

And grow a set

Failing that a 7x21.5 egg type is a pretty good compromise, you still get the paddle power. Can duck dive it.

Ending up in the lip and getting flogged is great for spectators though...

I've got a 7"0 rounded pin gun and it's no prob duckdiving got a bit of tail rocker so it's still loose eextra length more rail in the water hangs in unreal with a set of m5 fins perfect for down the line barrels.
