Hello all

First trip to Bali on the 10th August, very excited, wanted some advice on which board to take! I have been mainly surfing with a mini mal 7'6, having fairly recently added surfing to my watersports after many years windwurfing. In a fit of thinking I was perhaps better than I currently am, bought a second hand fish 6'1 (wide 20" and fairly thick 2"3/4). I have tried the fish once when I bought it down Yallingup way but SuperTubes was a tad fast a take off for me that visit! I want to start using the fish more regularly and thinking Bali would be a good place to get some intense practice in! Staying in Seminyak so around there / Kuta hear is the better options for progressing? Know its hard to comment without seeing what standard I am but thoughts on which board to take? Also is it possible to get in morning and post lunch/early arvo surfs (does it get windy that time or year in arvo) as the missus is taking her mini mal so could potentially flounder in the morning on the fish while she's on her mini mal and I could then grab that for an afternoon surf (she'll likely only surf once a day)

thanks!

Hi smp,as this is longboard forum you might be best to post over in the short room re- board, however yes you can get three surfs in per day.

Kuta beach break is best at mid too high tide, very fast closeouts at low tide, too fast for this old guy

Kuta reef can be a nice easy wave for you,but head to canggu, keramas as well.

Enjoy and keep us posted

Canggu has a nice wave for longboarding.
I cannnot for the life of me understand why people surf the crowded breaks at Kuta

Ah cool thanks, actually particularly because I'm crap I'd be keen to try less busy spots as having to think about what everyone else is doing just adds another layer of complexity to something that's already plenty complex! So will definitely give Canggu a try... Any other less busy/cruisy wave spots much appreciated.

smp, just a word of advice mate, canggu and keramas can get very crowded and if its on your probably best going somewhere else as it can get heated in the water with pros and euro's.

There's always an empty beach break around, but can pack some punch again mid to high if your learning.

If you do venture out on a reef just remember the rules, dont smoke anyone.

Got back yesterday from 2 weeks in Bali. Its the same old story as everywhere up early and you get it to about 9.00 - 10.00am uncrowded. The water is warm and the best surf depends on the tide. So just go and enjoy yourself. First day home today I checked out the surf its flat cold and ****. Give me Bali crowds and tides anyday.

Leave your boards at home. Not worth the trouble if you havent got it dialed yet. There are boards everywhere. Rent one and leave it at the beach when your finished.
