Finally decided to signup after browsing for ages

Anyways I’ve always wanted to learn to surf. I’ve just never got around to buying a board, and that’s about to change.

I’ve been looking at a board on here for a while in the for sale section. I’m just not to sure if it would be an alright beginner’s board

I’m 6ft tall and around 90kg (pure mu..mus…fat)

The Dimensions are: 10' X 15 1/2" X 24" X 19 1/4" X 3 3/4"


So I’m just wondering would this board be alright for me as a beginner?

Agreed, that's a really good size depending on the type and condition of the board.

People get sick of me saying that if you're a beginner or just old, fat and slow like me, the more volume the better.

Having a board that rips is not much use if you can't catch a wave to rip on in the first place.

10 foot is a pretty big board and at 90 kilos you're not that big either. It kind of depends on your fitness and agility.

If you are in qld then board culture had a couple of 10ft bics in their shops and both were in excellent condition and only around the $500 mark. If 10ft is what you are seriously looking at then I would check to see if the bics are still available because they are very good boards and you cant kill em. Not sure how much you want to spend but you will get a suitable mal around the 9'6 to 10'0 length definately under $500 if you shop around.

No I do not work for board culture or have any relationship with them - only reason I know about the boards is that I was looking for a 10 bic a couple of months ago and they had the only two s/h ones around.

Just had and after thought - my mate has a 10ft southpoint that he is selling. Its a bit narrower than the standard 10s so much easier to carry around. PM me if you are interested and I can find out a price. Will be way less than the beckham.

okay, 90kg is not big and a 10' board is big but lets not forget he's a good 6' tall and the taller you are the more of a stable platform you need when you're learning to snap to your feet and stay balanced.

That's why the 24" width is so important, I think it will allow him more security to move around on a board so he can make 10' work for him.

I will say this, 10' x 24" will be hard for you to get out the back if you're not a strong paddler or just learning to read rips and get through white water so choose your breaks carefully to start with or you'll feel rooted really quickly.

The board in question is indeed the $600 Beckham.

I live in the moreton bay area, northside of brissy. So we don’t actually get any surf here. So I’d be looking to travel to the sunny or gold coast (maybe even Bribie?)... Hopefully next year I’ll have my license, so I won’t have to rely on my wonderful mum.

My budget is around the $600 area, but I could stretch that out to about $1000.
