Hey Mr V, go onto the BOM site and check their index.

As well as all the forecasts and observations they have a section that helps you interpret the weather and read the maps etc.

They also have an interesting section on how our Indigenous friends read the weather.

coastal have the goods on forecasts and if you keep checking it and look at they have charts when the surf is good etc you'll pick it up.

experience over the years plays a big part too.like if the wind keeps down alone with the small goldie swell tomorrow would be a classic back beach day.

back in the day, i would be driving to south of the border.

but you can score big time or waste petrol and time

Coastalwatch their 5 day forecast is good,but Vanders you know what makes your local work.
Or are you looking at a long range forecast for a trip or something?

I prefer the swellnet charts. It has turned into a mini hobby for me over the last year.

Thermal Ben gives a nice detailed forecast and has the maps to the side to check what he has said to what you can see. I then cross check daily,generally a few times a day with the bomb maps to see if there are any changes.
. After a year I'm getting better for up my way,probably a bit better than him
Yet I'm looking at one spot and most of the predictions they do are based on snapper and d-bah.

and why are they all so different ?

Thanks fellas, just curious for no other reason other than I feel like I'd like to know how the predictions are determined and what weather patterns provide the best conditions.

Will start monitoring the charts and reading the info on BOM.

One of my mates is a meteorologist, moved from central coast to macquarie Island then to Tas, he's continually driving up the coast and coming up dry... Old mother nature's one sneaky mistress, experience helps but she's anyways the master
