Having a go at fixing a couple of boards and have a question.

Is it better to paint the repair (had to use filler) before fibreglassing or paint it later and then put on a coat of clear?

depends entirely on lots of things e.g.: size of ding, where on the board, is it a design or a straight colour? Is it PU or epoxy? Have a look at this lady here - she is the master and if you look through here you will find the solution. Also youtube has some good stuff. But the board lady gets my vote.

Na it's good, quick easy and no cleaning up or sanding if you do it properly.
I've had it on my rail for years and going strong.. and done many more quick fixes with it to get out of trouble but your ding repairer will probably hate you for using it, it is tough stuff to remove.

And board bog is okay for a quick fix 2 but it is also terrible to remove.

Did you know that there are 2 types of Solarrez that you can use?? I recently found this out whilst seeking some out after an unfortunate incident and being far from home. Use the white one when foam is showing and its a deep cut or fin plug / legrope plug to deal with - or use the yellow one if its small. A dremmel works wonders removing solarez at a later date.

Formulated especially for surfboard [urethane] foam repair. For deep dings. Lightweight and easy to sand. Cures either by UV light in approx 3 minutes or by MEKP catalyst in 30 minutes. Not for use on Styrofoam (EPS).

Fiberfil UV-Cure polyester putty.
A thin-paste mixture of clear, polyester resin and chop-strand glass fibers. Cures either by UV light in approx 3 minutes or by MEKP catalyst in 30 minutes. Sufficient for about five 1” round dings to the outer fiberglass shell.
