I read a bucket load of news some good some bad,one thing that has struck me over the last year is the age of death.
This morning a chap was found in a private residents pool and was unable to be revived at 71.I think 71 not bad ,no hang on thats too young.Which gets me thinking at my age I only have 10 years at best to surf imo. So its time to go harder than I have ever been. Surf more buy more boards!

Age is never going to be a problem for me.

I've always surfed about as hard as a Care Bear

I was watching Roger who is in his 70's pulling in to some big pits on his kiteboard at one of my fav waves last week then coming out and popping some lovely airs. No excuse really. He loves it. Spending his retirement kiting and surfing round Indo. Good on him. I wish I had grabbed a couple of the shots of him in action to show you Mac now you posted this.

OMG ...just read the title of this topic and was almost too scared (or is it scarred) to read on...but in the interest of science and knowing what a great bunch hang out in here, I choose to venture in....

I reckon, that you charge as hard as you can ... waking up the next day feeling battered from a big day or an extra long session(s) is a bloody awesome...
It is almost like sticking your middle finger at getting older.

So Mac......sound the battle sirens and chaaaarge!!!!!!!!

Clyde Aikau.

No excuses boys.

Doesn't mean I'm not full of them of course.

I surf every chance I get. It means I surf some dodgy waves, but sometimes score too (like yesterday) when the forecast is a little off.

A friend told me 20 years ago you have to keep the grommet Stoke or you stop surfing. Lots of surf buddies (most) from 30 years ago no longer surf. Their loss.

Yeah...your own mortality becomes more & more apparent as you grow older. People not much older & a even your age have serious health issues that can get you worried. I surfed with a bloke on Monday, 58yo that looked young for his age but had just got back in the water after 18 months out of the water due to a particularly scary type of cancer.

I'm starting to think I need to go not so hard in regard to drinking & eat well. Go the anti cancer stuff like brocolli & stuff like that...just stoked I quit smoking 5 years ago.

Other than that, the usual...make the most of each day & try not to be too fussy about the surf...cheers

I think it's a case of keeping a reasonable fitness level and keeping as flexible as possible. My short board nowadays is 8' but going to the 9' more often.
A use it or loose it paradox into the bargain.
