So, a lot of you know, two years ago a trip down the east coast changed me. Having surfed for thirty years I was adamant long boarding was pretty much the province of either useless surfers, or broken down old guys. Oh I was so wrong.

This has some nice pics and summates what I have always liked about surfing - predominantly shortboards for many years, but now longboarding too.

Curren, Thomson, Margo, Parko, Egan, Knox, Machado - all guys I thought had great styles.

Now there are a few Longboarders creeping into that list.

Mate, I have seen video of myself on a shortboard where I was pleasantly surprised. Looked slow, composed and did turns in the right spot with some power (for an amateur of course).

Conversely, me on a longboard? Well I suspect I look like a palsied praying mantis trying to run up and down stick hunting a mossie. And that's on a good day. But it is a lot of fun in the right waves.

Drop knee turn? Pfft. Who thinks to do that sort of flashy stuff?

Totally Agree, its style that counts on any craft... I love watching guys like Ryan Birch, Alex Knost, Joel Tudor, Leah Dawson, TK etc, all surfers that can ride mid/short/long craft and look elegant, riding craft that suits the conditions. I mean, you might be the best LB in the world aka Joe Aaron or the best SB aka medina gifted but your style is ugly as fick

as for me I both totally lack talent and have no style
