How the different forums go about doing different things.

Shorties talk about travel, Bali is a big subject as well as Indo, surfing rules ect.

Longies talk about boards, fins and what their local is like.

SUP talk about anything

Windsurfers talk about wind and wind and wind and wind. And if they lost or found gear, Kiters are similar (flack jacket on for that one)

Havnt really gone into the other ones oh, Stand Up Paddle Street, yes thats right, I mean really WTF

What do you guys think as Longboarders, do many of you go into other forums? And why?

Watched a Stand Up Skateboarder in Hawaii - I don't get it either

I go into the SUP (ordered a raceboard, building a 10'3"), Kiteboarding (I kite), Sailing (I sail), the Longboard and Shortboard (I like the Longboard section better ) and the General for the Funny pictures thread

I stay out of the rest of them - especially the Pole dancing section

I only went into street sup because I once thought it would be a good way to stay a bit fit mid week. And I can say it is, seems to be good for the core strength and arms. For the short time that I tried it, it knocked a couple of notches off my belt.

But you're dead right, it an absolutely pointless pastime and as boring as watching paint dry and any exercise must hold my interest, it does not.

If they tell you tell them that they will say the only way to do it is will all the proper you now what gear, who the hell are they kidding, 250 frigg'n smackers for a frigg'n stick. I did just fine with a $20 stick and an orange rubber from Bunnings that's usually use to deaden the blow from a Ball Peen hammer.

There could not possibly be enough additional excitement in using all that you know what gear ($450 boards and a $250 sticks) that could bring the level of excitement up to something that would make the investment worthwhile.

So I just stick with the longboard forum, at least I don't need to explain my weirdness, you guys are use to it.

Great topic doggie, I started out in the SUP room because a mate opened a shop on the GC and I got my best none surfing mate to buy one so I could give it a crack.Funny thing is he kicks my arse on one.
After that I bought a 11.4 as I wanted a flatwater board with a little surf on small days. It took four weeks and I was surfing it and IMHO it was a dog. So I traded it for a more surf SUP and used it week in week out and decided this is going to be my second option. I used it last weekend to pick up two bottles of champagne that the young ones throw in the water out the backyard at one of mac's parties.
I started surfing shortboards years ago and loved it until mac bulked up a tab and longboards became the easier option.
So I just enjoy surfing in general, from my short days to my longboad days. However the guys in the SUP hate me and are serious to the point I have been warned via a phone call to stop bagging a brand. The short guy's I enjoy as I love reading their stuff and commitment. As I too visit Bali a couple of times per year, some work related but mostly holidays. There was a guy on the forum called fatsurf,we both lobbied for the longboard room which we have today.

I visit the sup forum on the odd occasion but tend to upset people over there. I do own a sup and have supped for a couple of years but surfing is my real passion and in particular the longer boards. I have found vast differences across the short/long/sup forums and I am not going to stick my neck out with the comparisons cos it will bring me grief I just don't need. All I will say is that the longboard forum is very cool and everyone seem really genuine and there is no ego and b/s that I have seen. I don't think there is anyone I wouldn't be happy to share a beer and a few laughs with and trust me I am not a social butterfly by a long shot - I'm a bit of a loner but you guys are a good crew and hope to share some waves with most of you in the years to come.

I think you find that people into the ocean are interested in anything related to the ocean. I predominantly look at the SUP forums, but visit Long and Shortboard on almost every visit, and the general discussion makes for some good laughs.
I paddle my SUP mostly, but also have a longboard, an alaia and a prone paddleboard. Also paddle outrigger, have owned a racing ski, and sailed a bit in the past. Did a couple of seasons SLSA and got an IRB drivers licence. And I'm qualified as a SCUBA insructor.
This also demonstrates that you can never have too many toys.

Yeah, I dont think that any brand is any better than any other in the way they surf - it is completely different to every surfer. Yes, certain brands use better quality blanks/glass/etc etc but that really means FA at the end of the day because it doesn't mean that you will surf a quality made board any better than a cheap chinese popout. I guess if you are a really really good surfer then a top end primo board most probably will surf better for you but for mugs like me I just tend to surf what works for me, no matter what the brand or country of birth. To be honest if money was no object I would probably buy a premium name brand but money is an object so I tried a heap of boards in my price range and have come up with something I could afford and also really enjoy surfing. Isn't it amazing how poverty makes you so much more open minded.

There's a kneelo that rides at Mona Vale - he rips.

The only one I don't understand is standing up/kneeling on a body board....
