Heading to the Margaret River region for the long weekend. Never been surfing there on a long weekend before. Can anyone tell me if it gets packed down there this time of year. Hence will i get a wave.

Man - it will be packed.

Three main reasons... It'll be hot and the girlfriends (who don't surf) will be happy to spend time at the beach so will be happy to go away / there's no swell or shape in Perth and plenty of desparados willing to travel / and it might be the last warm LWE... (Easter's late this year).

Expect it to be VERY busy... everywhere.

I class myself as intermediate + surfer and the last long weekend I was down Yallingup way and to be honest I struggled to get my wave count. Locals have the spots wired and too many blown-ins hassling like buggery...

always take the board,never leave it at home,you never know what maybe on offer and its a long drive home to get it and you'll be kicking yourself

Yep - def. take the board. Even getting a handful of waves is better than getting none - you only need that 'one' wave to make your day...

And for some strange reason, it amazes me how many crew turn up > 9:00am - so go the early if you can...

Good call lads. Board is packed. I'd be pissed if i went all that way and missed out. Specially since i've been checking the beach here (Secret Harbour) every morning and i have only been out twice in the last 2 weeks because its sooooooo flat!

...well, I've only been out twice in the last 18 weeks (ankle surgery). Based on my efforts on Sunday, me thinks it's going to take me a while to get back into it...

Me and a mate heading down as well, struggling to find somewhere to stay atm! Expecting it to be packed but not deterred, at the least a nice place to spend a few days away from the hassle of work and the missus!

Have never really surfed down south much apart from suicide sessions on the lid at Rabbits and a couple of attempts at South POint when it was way too big for me!

Going down to Albany on Thursday night to see the folks, board will be strapped to the car as soon as I get off work ... can't wait

Too true! Great coastline, spent most of my time down there under the water.
Although the coast west somewhere towards Denmark will be getting a visit this weekend
