Wondering if the good folk on this forum might be able to offer some opinions.

I'm going to hit the big four zero this year and my wife has suggested a holiday for the event.
We have kids that are just getting to the age that we feel comfortable leaving with family for a week and it will be our first real (just the two of us) break in nearly a decade.

We have just had the big "where to" conversation and it turns out priorities have changed since we last dared think about travel.

It's probably normal but gone are the dreams of trekking NZ and we now just want to do absolutely nothing for a week but eat, drink, surf and not get in a car for 7 days.

We have been googling surfing trips and island resorts but they seem to consistently involve boats and tours. many of the places that boast perfect surf at the doorstep - when google mapped seem to have beautiful breaks about a k off shore.

I have an image in my head of a hut on a beach with a perfect cruising right hand point break, clear water, fancy fish, banana lounge and coconut with a straw.

Willing to consider anywhere in the world really at this point.. we have a good while to fill the jar.

Even a trip north (South coast Victorian here) would be nice if we could find a good spot. Noosa looks fun, do the crowds ease off out of school holiday time?

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions.. and/or warnings for that matter.

I am going to PM a suggestion - its only issue might be the length of time it takes to get there. Otherwise it covers all your dreams. I will be there in a few weeks time. Reluctant to put it on here as everywhere is just so busy these days and I would prefer this place was not talked about more than it already is. So please be discrete with it!

It really depends on what time of the year that you are going as well. I stayed in Sri Lanka in front of a lovely right hand point break that I basically had to myself for a few weeks. Beautiful place, warm water, incredible food. Surf was perfect for a longboard. Go here if its around Oct - April.

We stayed at a place about 3 doors along - we think it was better - about $100 a night peak season. Food is incredible - just walk along the beach and choose whatever you like. Lovely people.

Yes indeed. They are well known and one spot does sort of remind me of a good old fashioned tool! Go there in April after school holidays and the water will still be warm and the surf will be cranking. Just watch out for a east coast low so you do not get rained in and can not leave

Mirissa - the view from my window and one of me sneaking one in as the sun comes up. I used to paddle out when it was still dark and have it to myself for a few hours. Heaven. Wish I had taken one of my longboards a long instead of having to hire one.

theme parks for the kids coffee shops for the over 40s male and shopping for the wife.

and the best surf in Australia,i know a bloke who lives on the goldie that says he never wants to surf any another place its that good.
