My first memories of the Goldy was circa 88. On an u17 rugby trip which co-incided with my first (and not last) schoolies. We stayed at the Aussie Resort just nth of Burleigh. Spent the arvos at the Beergarden (with open roof) drinking jugs of beer to Hemi singing Lola. Then off to Twains which I think became Cocktails & Dreams and finish up at Melbas. Sunday arvo at Fisho's Wharf (the old one) drinking more jugs then a 17 year old could handle. Probably been up there 20 times since and never got sick of the joint.
Love it

Scotty those where the days mate all gone to the ****ter as far as I'm concerned, sure we have great waves and all the good things that come with that but zap me back in time please.

Late 70's to mid 90's,everyone who lived here was a surfer or surf bum and had chicks,we drank beer at open beer gardens unlike the crap served up today,we all drove old wagons which doubled up as a bedroom for all those mad mad parties we went too,we had a few clubs and all played LIVE music the Playroom where I met my wife had one dollar Sunday nights with bands like inxis oils and all the big up and coming Australian bands.

Oh don't worry Lacey was at all these pits, life was grand oh I did see the Oils at the old Grand before they screwed it up.

Zap me to Northern NSW's

Yep gotta agree. I'm in a bit younger bracket to you guys but the 80's and early to mid 90's were the high point of the Goldy being what it was. The Room, The Patch, Hill St, The Party, Fishos, echo beach, beer garden. Come as you are (boardies and singlet) Sundays in surfers after Fishos. And my mint original HT Kingy!

Now what is it? War zone or Ice freaks robbing joints, over crowded waves. I still love my home but the innoncence is long gone.

Hmm the old broadbeach beer garden on the arvo then up to the old fisho's all after surfing with some up and coming little groms and some mad dudes like Bruce Lee pull into the old old Kirra surf where Glen Rocky worked before he made a short stint on the tour and those groms the Watt's (Sam )was a stand out I know his brother well we surfed and skated together for a while and Rabbit Hot Stuff and my first custom board ever, up at Nicks place Mt Woodgee thanks to Lacey's gang life was way simple,I lived across the canal from the casino for five years and watched it grow from the old caravan park.

Geez I'm seriously old

The beer garden had the big muscle head bouncers. When the DJ would play Nirvana's 'come as you are' they would lock the front doors and all the bouncers would surround the dance floor cause with all the mosh pit type dancing there would always be scuffles and fights and blokes would get dragged down those long, wide stairs and thrown out the front. Looking back now surely it would have been smarter to just not play but where's all the fun in that.

Geez mate no stairs back in my prime days there thank godbut my mate who looked older than me because he had a mow would always get asked for ID and I looked like a kid it always happened I always laughed.

Then we rolled down the road west to the Paradise room at 9.45 on the dot and walked right up the end on the bar,why because at 10 they pulled the light on and you were told to just GO like right now.So with bouncers on our tail we drank all the drinks people left behind (more fuel on board ) for Bombay Rock,10 bucks and smashed what a great night out that was

Go the table drinks mac. I'm sure you would have had plenty dollar drink nights in your day. You could go out with $20 and get pissed as. Used to love the Friday $1 nights at the Seals Club at my local. I was at the Coogee Bay Hotel last month and got charged $8 a schooner. Sh1t a brick.
